Replacement of color LED light for in ground pool. Suggestion on using silicone to prevent water intrusion into light housing, a common deficiency with the current design.

Wow! I've had two of these exact lights replaced by my pool guy at a cost of $600 each. I'm pretty handy around the house but I was intimidated about trying this myself until I saw your video. Thanks very much! I'm going to give it a try and save myself some money. These lights unfortunately don't last very long, and I have a third one going out.

Glad it was helpful. Since making this, it was suggested that you let the silicone set up for 48 hours if you have time before submerging it. I didn't do that with this one, but made a 2nd video that will be uploaded sometime soon where I point this out. The lights are pretty pricy, low to mid $300's based on my recent purchases.

@@ChantelBartges I think mine came from PoolSupplyUnlimited.com I did find it a little challenging to ID the correct part initially. If it helps you, the item number is 602054 for the color LED with a 50-ft cord. They come in 30, 50, 100, and 150-ft lengths I believe.

Sounds very high, nearly double what you can purchase them for. At Pool Supply Unlimited, the lights I last purchased in 2021 are currently $378.25. Perhaps these are not the same as yours, but this is a reputable site if you want to check it out. Sounds like doing the work yourself could save some serious coin, even if you had to buy a decent fish tape, which most people don't have. www.poolsupplyunlimited.com/pool/pentair-602054-globrite-color-led-pool-light/141526p1

5 months in…so far so good? Thanks for the video. I’m about to replace one on my own!

Yep, all good. With the second light I gave the silicone a few days to set before I submerged it and wished I had done that with the first one but they are both doing fine so far so good.

II have 13 of these Pentair GloBrite lights. 3 in the Pool, 1 in the SPA, 7 in the Pentair Bublers. And 2 in water fountain bowls. The Pool was finished in 2017. Under warranted Pentair replaced 6 of these lights. I now have 6 more that are dead. The local Pentair pool repair business has quoted $4,321.15 to replace the six dead lights. The labor cost is $140 for each light unless they take longer than an hour. Then is will cost more. I am looking to replace all the lights with Jandy nicheless Pro LED color lights. Since the Jandy lights only require 1.5” diameter pipe they might fit into the Pentair Niche.

Any update on trying the other brand lights?
@gregmoore1661

Thanks for the suggestion. Would definitely be worth trying Jandy equivalent if it fits the niche, but "nicheless" makes me think they might be best for a new install rather than replacement. Will do some digging next time I need one and see what's the latest.

Any update? I have these terrible Pentair lights and they fail. We really need a class action lawsuit they obviously are defective design. Did you find a Jandy light that works? Please reply with details. thank you!

Greg, these lights are water cooled. Did you know you voided the manufacturer’s warranty when you altered the state of the light, by sealing it?
@gregmoore1661
@gregmoore1661 Жыл бұрын
Totally understand and well worth the risk given the warranty is I believe 90 days. After the experience of having them go out repeatedly after 9 to 18 months, I’ll try anything that might keep the water from penetrating the housing. The silicone isn’t covering enough of the housing to prevent heat transfer so I think we’re okay there. Appreciate your feedback.

"warranty". LMAO. These lights all fail outside the warranty period. they are junk. Other than taking a sawzall to them I don't think you could possibly make them worse.

Building a pool now and gunite and lights have been installed. Just now reading all the reviews on these. Thanks for the vid and I’ll go silicone all 5 of my lights before we fill up with water. Just curious how’s it holding up? So far so good?
@gregmoore1661

All good still after 18 months. Good idea. Be sure to unscrew them so you can get silicone all around the body also, as the whole thing is underwater. As painful as it will be to wait on swimming, suggest allowing them to cure for at least overnight, maybe hanging out in the open air before screwing them back into the niche. Good luck! They’re wonderful lights so no regrets … when they’re working 😉

Haven't had any success finding an outlet that sells these at much of a discount. This is where I ended up getting the 3 lights I purchased as part of making these videos. www.poolsupplyunlimited.com/

Glad you asked, as I was thinking I should update. I’m 50% success. Haven’t pulled the one that went out yet to see if it has water intrusion. Will do so soon and post an update. I’m hopeful the sealer is holding and that it’s out for other reasons.

Hello Greg, Awesome tutorial for replacement of the glowbrite lights. Curious? Is this a Florida pool? If so who built your pool for you? I’m on the road to replacing a bulb as well in the spa, but at the same time I plan on getting a second switch for the spa.

Glad you found the video helpful. Artesian built our pool and we couldn't have been more pleased with their team and service. Pool contractors tend to be local so they may or may not be in your area.

I’ve had these lights replaced 4 months into the pool being built. Abs every 6 months after that they’ve had to be replaced. Well now they’re no longer under warranty and they are asking $350 a light and it’s just going to keep happening. I need help!
@gregmoore1661
@gregmoore1661 2 жыл бұрын
Right there with you Ms. Bolen. It's borderline criminal what Pentair is doing with these lights but let's hope this waterproofing will make them last longer. BTW ... if your pool people will replace them for $350 each, that's actually a very fair price ... not far above what just the parts cost.

We need a class action lawsuit. We are all getting ripped off by an obviously defective product and once the light is installed into an expensive concrete pool you can't change it to something different.
