Pentair Mastertemp 400 control board fix

My Pentair Mastertemp pool heater would not turn on. This video explains what the problem was and how I fixed it.  After eliminating other potential causes like the power supply and fuses, I determined the issue was the control board.  Then came the decision of how much money to spend on a replacement control board. 
This video does not include a step-by-step process of how to replace the control board. But it’s pretty intuitive if you’ve ever worked on your pool heater before. The job can be done in about 20 minutes if you get the covers on and off quickly. Be sure to turn the power off at the breaker  first.

i've had that same heater for 10 years now and have gone through 5 motherboards... good to know that ebay has them cheap and they work... any update on that motherboard after a year now?

Hi Steve - I've purchased both an "expensive" and "low cost" aftermarket control board for my Pentair Heater - they are all rather fragile in terms of longevity. Did you low cost one last? If I can get a full year out of the $75 versions, I'd do it over and over.

I bought a new Mastertemp 400 in April 2022, the control board screen layout is slightly different than the eBay control board layouts I see -- wondering if anyone knows if it is still compatible with these common replacement boards.

So this is a Pentair master temp control board replace. It’s not a fix.
