She loves Pentatonix and has had them on her show and other features. And yes she always has a powerful voice but loves collaborating. PTX knew who she was when they did this song and Scott helps with arrangements. As commenter said, same format with others like Kelly Clarkson. Main thing -- the audience was ecstatic. Loved your reaction and respect for PTX and Jennifer. Yes, check her out to understand her more.

Pentaholic here...but, also, a Jennifer Hudson fan! I'm going to assume you didn't know about her Oscar for Dreamgirls four years after her appearance on American Idol in 2002? (She should never have been eliminated!) Her performance of "And I am Telling You I'm Not Going" is the showstopper of the movie! Yeah, she can blow out some windows! She's gone through personal tragedy and has prevailed brilliantly. It might be worth your time looking to see if you can find that Dreamgirls performance for a reaction.

I agree, her voice is very powerful. By the way, there was a new PTX song, Meet Me Next Christmas, just released it is from their upcoming Movie, Meet Me Next Christmas, which is playing on Netflix on Nov 6. This is definitely a Hudson feature with PTX accompanying. There is a studio version of this on PTX's 2016 Christmas album, but it only has a Yule Log audio-only video. The studio version is still a Hudson feature but a bit better balanced. I think I remember the studio version is longer, with maybe an extra verse and chorus? Anyway, you might prefer that version.

That is my favorite HF song. The vocals are even better than the view of the (was it the Swiss Alps, the other big mountain chain, I had it until I went to type it, then it went poof) Seriously that is probably my favorite performance of How Great Thou Art, Ive ever heard. But if you like these two songs, HF's O Holy Night, will make the hardest most evil heart cry happy tears.

This was PTX first Christmas Show on TV and also, it was Matt's 1st time performing with PTX after Avi left.

This wasn’t their first Christmas special. The first one was in 2016 with Avi. This was from the the next Christmas special in 2017 and they let Matt join the special before he was announced as an official member.

This video, and Jolene,, PTX is treated as backup singers and not equal soloist/group singers.I don't like that. I enjoyed the song, but if you collab with someone, they should be equals, not pushed to the back because you are more famous, and so you look good. But I guess if I was PTX I would accept the push down, to my name listed with theirs, so their fans will be exposed to me. I just don't like seeing PTX be disrespected and moved from headliner to backup singer. They are too good for that. Just my opinion, don't hate me.

You do realize that Ptx are the ones who choose to put themselves in the background? They arrange the songs and give the featured guest the lead. They did it with Kelly Clarkson, Marren Morris, jasmine Sullivan, meghan Trainor etc. more often than not, when they collab, the guest is featured. Sometimes Scott gets a part but they’re usually let the guest shine the most.

I didn’t care for that too much. She’s a great singer but she’s kind of drowns everything else out. Couldn’t even really hear them for the most part. But I’m guessing they were letting her shine on purpose because it’s not like Scott has a quiet voice himself LoL

I love everything Pentatonix and normally love their collaborations, but as wonderful as Jennifer Hudson's voice is, to me it feels too overwhelming/unbalanced in this performance. It makes me sad, as this is one of my favorite songs.
