There's quite a backstory in regard to this "Daft Punk Medley". It had originally been planned that it would be filmed in a specific studio by FifGen Films, but that fell through at the last minute, so they had to improvise. Quickly. So Fifgen ended up recording the audio in a closet in Avi & Kevin's shared apartment (money was tight then, and the 2 shared an apartment to save on expenses) in L.A. Then the video was filmed in their kitchen, using a cloth backdrop and a few ring lights. The bright blue contacts were one of the few expenses and the shoot ended up costing $400 (assuming that that doesn't include FifGen, who probably did it gratis for the exposure that turned out to be worth a lot). By the way, you'll notice that Avi's eyes are very red, as the contacts seriously irritated his eyes. And Kevin couldn't wear them at all, hence the goggles, which actually was a sort of homage to Daft Punk's look. Here's a link to PTX's acceptance speech for their Grammy, video'd by Scott's parents from their TV. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHOxkomZgrJ9rK8

I'm a 62-year old PTX fan. I wasn't into Daft Punk when they became world wide sensation. This medley brought me to listening to Daft Punk and I just can't get over the mind-blowing arrangement. Truly worth PTX's first Grammy. Thanks for reacting. Cute story that you have there 😊

PTX will always put an instrument out front if they use one. Usually Kevin's Cello. How to win a Grammy spending only 400 dollars in one of their closets and living room LOL!! Enjoyed the reaction!! Careful you might get this years tour...which was AMAZING!!!!

They do one other EDM song : an original called Love Again. They do big dramatic blockbusters like Hallelujah and pop songs like Havana, Say Something and Shallow. I think they've only done one country song, but that was with Dolly Parton and got them another grammy. There are a few originals like Run To You. They have collaborated with Lindsey Stirling (dancing violinist) three times and added Kevin's cello at the same time : Radioactive, Papoutai and Over The River. Some older rock : Sound Of Silence, Imagine and Bohemian Rhapsody. Gallons of Christmas songs. Fast and bouncy original : Sing! Fantasy : Come Along, Let It Go, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Making Christmas and You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch. Have fun! Ask by music type and fans can dig it up for you.

Mitch Grassi (counter tenor), Scott Hoying (baritone), Avi Kaplan (bass, left in 2017 and Matt Sallee is now the bass), Kirstin Maldonado (alto), Kevin Olusola (vocal percussion, cello, and tenor). Made for $400 and won them their 1st Grammy (arrangement). Suggest you watch the "no mic" version at kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqiXinapfb1-nas

Kevin beatboxes/sound effects. Avi provides the bass line. On rare occasions, Kevin plays cello and beatboxes. They have tons of Christmas and all kinds of pop music. "Can't Hold Us" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" are great from their early years.

Hey Zack, great reaction! YES! It’s all done by their voices, 100% acappella! This includes Kevin’s incredible beatboxing, claps, body percussion and stomps. The beatboxer’s sounds (like the vocals) are refined in the studio, but it sounds almost identical live when he uses a stomp pad to amplify the stomping (This can be heard in some songs, like Hallelujah, which is a must-see for anyone interested in Pentatonix. It’s their most popular video and song with almost 660M views and how most people are introduced to them.) But if you liked this, I think you’d get REALLY nostalgic over the 90’s Dance Medley! The new bass, Matt, is in it. 💜 Subbed for more PTX! Yay! Thank you!

There is a very blue-alien video by Daft Punk and they are matching the color theme. Kevin's glasses are because the contacts made his eyes crazy. They were rapidly running out of money, so this was done very, very cheaply. Drug store contacts, wig and makeup. I believe the video mixer group did it very cheaply to get future business. I suppose that worked out really well.

I'm surprised that I didn't see a Mitch Slap reaction..... which kinda makes me sad, but maybe next reaction! Everyone else has already given you the story of the video, which did land them the first of their (currently) 3 Grammys. I really look forward to more reactions to Pentatonix, and I do believe you are starting down the rabbit hole to becoming a Pentaholic!

This song actually won them a Grammy.. In the speech Scott stated that the voices was recorded in Avi's bedroom closet and the video was made in the kitchen.. Such a simple video that gave them their first Big award.. And man what a winner.. I just started listening to PTX like 2 weeks ago and I'm very addicted to them.. Imagine is one of my favorites.. Could you please react to dimash quidibergen.. Singing Stranger.. Another one that will blow your mind... Thank you ❤

I came for Pentatonix but I’m subscribing because you talk like I think. You will get lots and lots of song suggestions from others so I will leave that to them. I will say I rediscovered Pentatonix just a while ago and I’ve been thoroughly entertained by them. Scott and Mitch had a side band called Superfruit for a few years, Avi has some solos and collabs out, and Mitch has released some solo songs under the artist name Messer. Good stuff for the long hours of pandemic free time. Peace from Ohio …

If you enjoyed the "Daft Punk Medley" as a throw back to your younger days, I'm absolutely sure you will also enjoy Pentatonix's (PTX's) "90s Dance Medley." So well done and they will amaze you. Keep in mind...it's all acapella, no instruments! It will bring back memories of your youth!! The question is, how many of the songs will you claim to remember??
