My favorite song that they performed. Pentatonix - PentatonXMAS Holiday Concert, at the Vic Theatre in Chicago December 13th, 2018. Check out my original work at www.catherineheathcreative.com!
P.S. Kirsten was a champ and had a broken foot during this performance!

Some of the harmonies from Kirstie and Mitch in the first verse were a bit off, but by the time Matt got into his verse, things cleaned up. Maybe the acoustics affected how the tuning sounds, or maybe I’m remembering the harmonies not sounding quite as dissonant. idk

I swear it’s so annoying seeing all of these comments saying “Avi was better” “I prefer Avi” etc! Matt did an amazing job! It has been more than a year since he left, people need to move on because he is not going to come back! Matt isn’t trained like Avi, they are different basses that cannot be compared. They were big shoes to fill and Matt has done an amazing job of it. This isn’t meant to offend anyone and I get people are allowed to have there opinions but it is just getting a bit rude now to Matt.

@benji0099
@benji0099 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you somewhat.....and I really don't think it's Matt's fault at all. He has way less experience and really just doesn't have the range Avi did, but I do appreciate he isn't trying to emulate Avi 100% and brings his own style. For me, the issue is why PTX decided to replace Avi with another baritone who can sing bass (Matt), instead of a true bass singer like Avi. I know they're few and far between, but they really needed someone to balance out Mitch's upper range, plus someone who could blend nearly as well as Avi did with the rest of the group. Matt just can't do that. Again, not Matt's fault and the rude comments should stop. But very strange choice by PTX and Ben Bram, or whoever made the final decision.

I really like Matt on this solo. Avi is more honest to the original, but Matt almost fits better with the rest of the members. I love his take on the solo, and how unafraid he is to be showy like the other members are, something Avi was never as keen on. Avi's tone is definitely more polished, but Avi is like 5 or 6 years older than Matt, Matt didn't go to college for opera either, so yeah his tone will be different. All in all, the two are very different, and that's good. Matt isn't trying to be Avi, and that's important, because trying to be Avi would just remind people that he isn't Avi. Doing what he is, you know he is just being Matt, and that Matt is being Matt, not trying to be Avi.

I agree that he's not trying to be Avi. Btw nobody would even hold a candle to Avi! I just don't agree when you say that Matt's voice fits better to the group. No it doesn't. Ptx sounded way better with Avi, because amids Scott's strong baritone leads, Kirstie's feminine touch, Mitch flying vocals and Kev's percussions, it was Avi's warm smooth and superpower bass that balanced everything. With Matt, it's like having two Scotts cause he hardly feel the low end part. Also he is often slightly out of tune, out of rythm and it shows when the others aren't. It's not just a question of taste, you just have a much better singer in Avi. And I also don't agree with you because Avi might be introverted, he doesn't do social media as often as the others for example, but he is a beast and a killer on stage. He has a charisma that Matt lacks of in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, Matt is a decent singer but he is not in the same level of musicianship as the other members of the band and that bothers people like me.

@snooky poo Honestly I'm just happy he went for it. I'm not expecting him to be Avi caliber any time soon, but he definitely has skills that should be appreciated and respected. That note is well out of his natural range and he's working on improving it every day. While I agree to this day I find Avi's particular sound to mesh better with the rest of the group, Matt's sound is still really good and they're learning how to get the best sound out of everybody with this new bass.

Matt is doing a great job although he wasn't able to reach the last note but he still did a great job, and he is still young for a bass singer and still has more years to improve especially if he reaches 30 (Avi's age) which made him have a solid bass. Even Avi took time to become a very good bass singer
@marcoonesa6935
@marcoonesa6935 3 жыл бұрын
@snooky poo Clearly you haven't listened to Avi's voice range when he was just starting to sing as a Bass for Pentatonix. Yes his bass was on point but he didn't use to sing notes below the second octave back then. His lowest recorded note back then was C2 and was still shaky back then. Avi then developed his bass singing by practicing vocal fry and other bass singing techniques. Matt still has a lot of time ahead of him to develop his bass voice. You can't argue with me cause I study music and I am an acapella and choir arranger.

WOW!!! there are so many comments about AVI. I am pretty sure he left the group (YES! that is called sarcasm). Here it is in a nutshell. Matt is not trying to imitate Avi. Avi was very influential in picking Matt as the new member of the group. And it was a unanimous decision. Neither one is actually better. They are different. So if you came here just to hear the differences between the 2, then you did not come to hear Pentatonix, and that is your loss. And even more, if you came here to compare the 2 and try and show your vast knowledge (again, with the sarcasm), the you really do not understand music

@@frogprincess7564 A tenor? I think he is a counter-tenor, in fact I think his voice is higher than Mitch's and Kirsty's and he just has a nice lower register LOOL

I've heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do ya? Well it goes like this: the fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah hmm Well, your faith was strong, but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew ya She tied you to the kitchen chair She broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Well baby, I've been here before I've seen this room and I've walked this floor I used to live alone before I knew ya And I've seen your flag on the marble arch And love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Well, maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya And it's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who has seen the Light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah

This is just unfair to the new bass guy... He can't sing like Avi and people will always compare. So I think they should just leave the old songs alone and do new ones, like "Sound of silence" which he was great at.
