"The Prayer" is a song performed by Canadian singer Celine Dion and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. It was written by David Foster, Carole Bayer Sager, Alberto Testa and Tony Renis. "The Prayer" was originally recorded in two solo versions for the 1998 film Quest for Camelot, in English by Dion and in Italian by Bocelli. A duet between Dion and Bocelli later appeared on their respective studio albums, These Are Special Times (1998) and Sogno (1999), and was released as a promotional single on 1 March 1999. "The Prayer" won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1999 and a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals in 2000. It received highly positive reviews from music critics and entered adult contemporary charts in Canada and the United States in 1999. In 2008, Dion released a live version of "The Prayer" as a duet with Josh Groban. This music download entered the Canadian Hot 100 at number 37 and the Billboard Hot 100 at number 70.
Pentatonix (abbreviated PTX) is an American a cappella group from Arlington, Texas, consisting of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee. Characterized by their pop-style arrangements with vocal harmonies, basslines, riffing, percussion, and beatboxing, they produce cover versions of modern pop works or Christmas songs, sometimes in the form of medleys, along with original material. Pentatonix formed in 2011 and subsequently won the third season of NBC's The Sing-Off, receiving $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music.[2][3] When Sony's Epic Records dropped the group after The Sing-Off, the group formed its KZbin channel, distributing its music through Madison Gate Records, a label owned by Sony Pictures.[4][5][6] Their KZbin channel currently has over 19 million subscribers and 5 billion views. If you watch Kirstin in the Background you can see that there is something wrong with her Earpiece and/or Reciever. First she tries to put the Earpiece right in her ear, then she seems to turn something at the Reciever only to fiddle with her Earpiece again. All that while singing, staying in harmony and not loosing contentration anytime. That Earpiece allows a singer to hold the tune (it's a physical thing to support the brain syncronizing your voice). Without it many good Singer/Musicians would be lost while performing on stage. That alone shows the Talent this Group has and how good they fit together.

Kirsten is constantly messing with her earpieces. I think there are times she prefers having both in, and times she wants one or the other out. If you notice here, she takes the one on Scott and Mitch's side right before her solo, and puts it back when she switches back to doing background vocals. It's deliberate. Scott and Matt mess with theirs periodically as well, but not as much as she does.

I was at that concert and I felt bad for anyone in the first 10 rows. Front row started standing even though they had a perfect view and everyone else had to stand to also see over them. Luckily I was sitting in the back so I didn't have to stand the entire concert.

Mic balance seems off in every one of these I've seen...not as bad in this one but in places the harmony singer overpowers the main melody singer. Not sure why their people wouldn't EQ it better since its like this every performance of this song on the tour...the only time I've heard it EQd right was their iheart radio performance which was amazing. Im not at all saying its bad but was hoping for it to sound like it did in their iheart performance. Still super excited to see them on Wed 😁

@@Don-ck2bm there is and thats ok. throughout this song the solosist are paired off. first scott and mitch, then scott and kirstin, then mitch and kistin and there are full 3-4 part harmonies going on in the background with bass and perc. so they do have some pre-recorded parts to fill sound. sounds like 2 layers of individual backing vocals with one live singer filling the third spot. you can really notice it when kisten and scott are duetting and the top backing track is also kirstin belting in the background. Again, its totally fine to do that live. its cool theyre mixing it up for their shows

@@A_J___ yes, you can hear Kirstin's backing vocal at 2:48 . it's still all acapella but they have moved towards layered vocals for SOME songs for a fuller sound. some like it, some don't. I think it takes a bit away from their live performances, but at the same time it obviously doesn't take away from their talent. from what I've seen, there's a bit of controversy over it.

@@louischan1623 it seems their bigger pieces are almost so cinematic that maybe they're afraid to strip it down. I personally dont mind some pre-recorded stuff. I think it can work really well. it'll be interesting to see what they do on their next non-holiday tour with how technically intense the studio tracks on "The Lucky One's Deluxe" are. I would love to see them go back to full live with essentially acoustic versions of all of their lucky ones originals fit to sound full with 5 people. But i think there's value in some backing vocals where they can really stick the landing. This could also be an opportunity for them to add real life background singers if they wanted haha. I feel like they could get away with that more than pre-recorded tracks
