Now you understand about PTX & Christmas songs! If you want to hear some others that they completely revamped check out first Over the River (you'll be shocked, truly! And it's nominated for a Grammy for the album Evergreen) then Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (Grammy Winner), My Favorite Things, Making Christmas, I Just Called To Say I Love You, & Carol of the Bells live from Christmas Under The Stars (aka "Mitch BREATHE!"). My fav Xmas originals are Thank you, Invincible, & That's Christmas to Me! Great, honest reaction! Loved it!

I understand that Kevin brought this to the band. It's his homage to his Nigerian father and Grenadian mother. Your next upbeat kind of Christmas song needs to be 'Joyful, Joyful.' (Live from the Evergreen Tour) kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6SbgatqhaamoNk

I'm sure someone has beaten me to it but, you know the monotonous "12 days of Christmas"? Ptx blows it out of the water. You would love I think. They have 7 Christmas album so there are plenty of songs to choose from.

They gave this a very African sound and beat. They did a similar thing to Joy To The World on their 2022 Christmas album. The song is called LOVE CAME ON CHRISTMAS (JOY TO THE WORLD). Just audio only but a great listen.

Definitely worth a bop! I love it when they’re calling ‘come all ye faithful’ and you see the feet of the choir coming into view. And then, wham, big sound! Way to go, Kevin, for the inspiration. Love your reaction, as always. (Have you done Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies yet? They won their second Grammy for it. If you have, apologies.) Peace from Ohio …

I agree. There ia a huge community of Pentaholics who love to watch (and re-watch) reactors so making them easy to find in a separate Playlist will definitely increase your views.
Thanks for this, always great to listen to a reactor with musical knowledge! To continue having your Christmas-music mind blown :), check out their 12 Days Of Christmas, Joyful Joyful (the live version from their Evergreen tour 2021! best recording by far!), Carol Of The Bells, and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen!

Great reaction, thank you! PTX has a pretty extensive xmas catalog ( well over 200 songs) and they put their special spin on each one so ya better get busy! Like many people I was totally burned out on xmas music and started dreading the holiday season. PTX will kick-start that right out of you. Even the most dreaded '12 Days of Xmas' has been brought back to life! But better to start with: 1) God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen 2) Making Christmas (yes - that one) 3) Carol of the Bells 4) Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (second Grammy winner) and 5) Mary Did You Know That's a good start, but anything you pick will be outstanding. Hurry, hurry!

This isn't your father's Christmas carol! Kevin's arrangement has totally reworked this song, and made it into a real bop! For a song where they did something more like what you were expecting, try God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Starts off very traditional, then PTX starts to work its magic, and while I wouldn't consider it a bop, they really changed it up.

Great reaction, like you I think Christmas music could use a few more vibey retellings of the classic story. The fact that they're Christians means that they take their Christmas music very seriously, and that means that they do it with joy, and humor. Changing the rhythm of a song doesn't mean that you don't respect what came before, it means that you loved it enough to try to make it appeal to a different audience. God loves Him an African beat just as much as a Gregorian chant

As I'm sure others have told you, this version was arranged with Kevin to honor his Grenadian and Nigerian parents. Many others have described it as having a "Lion King" feel, but that's just the African roots of this song. I. Love. This. Version. It's so joyful and uplifting, unlike the version we sang in church all the time. I'm glad you reacted to this one. All this Pentatonix Christmas music is getting me in the spirit of the holidays which has been lacking for quite a number of years. Cheers to you and yours!

Most of your comments have already mentioned all the suggestions I would've made for PTX Christmas songs. But one that I didn't see mentioned is their version of "Deck The Halls". I feel like it gets overlooked sometimes but I LOVE what they did with it. Also, I believe it's the 1st song they recorded with their current bass Matt (replaced Avi (guy with the beard) as the new bass in 2018)

Love the original....adore this! I will say, even when PTX keeps Christmas songs slower, they still add so much to them and make it worth a listen even if you don't normally love the older versions. I recommend Silent Night (live) - the old one, not the new version - as evidence.
