I'd love to see you do this, but maybe listen to a few of the songs from the album first: you mentioned The Prayer. Also try Over the River (with Lindsey Stirling), and there's a good live version of I Saw Three Ships on the Late Show (there was no officia video for that).

If you want to hear Kevin play his cello (Beyonce), watch "Say something". You mentioned Scott using his hands to express himself, he is well known for that and in the Say something video, which gave the illusion of a portrait, Scott had to hold on the back of chairs so he wouldn't move his hands. But you could still see his arms moving sometimes. Kirsty had the lead and she was incredibly. Hope you put it on the play list, will be listening for it. Thanks for the reaction and analysis.

Another nice little touch I noticed: Towards the end of Matt's solo, on the line "... that voices never shared...", he smoothly shifted from singing the melody (the Art Garfunkel part) into the harmony line (the Paul Simon part) to lead into that epic bass drop, with Mitch seamlessly picking up the melody line

@@panderson756 Since their voices can often sound similar, I just listened to that section on replay about 6 times to double check. it sounds to me that Mitch is singing the melody with Kirstie singing a high harmony that's very close to Mitch's part. Those two are absolute masters of tight, high harmonies.

While Kevin doesn't play the cello often in their videos, it makes it even more impactful when he does. Here's some videos where Kevin plays the cello (not complete, just what I can think of offhand): Say Something (my favorite) Radioactive, Papaoutai, Over the River (all collaborations with Lindsey Stirling on violin) Shallow Dancing On My Own Thank You Perfect There are also videos on Kevin's own KZbin channel (KO) - my favorite is his "Kover" of Down. And a recent video during their tour of Kevin's Fifth, where he gets to showcase his talents.

Just subscribed for more PTX. I am so excited to hear your breakdowns of their music. It's great when knowledgeable reactors find PTX and share their perspective. For live moments, there are so many out there, but one of my most favorite is the 2016 Popspring mini concert. They do 4 songs, 3 of them originals, so it shows not only how great they sound live, but also how talented they are as writers as well. And Pentaholics love watching the whole thing, so don't worry about the length. As mentioned, the Making of Evergreen is truly something you'll appreciate.

You'll get a lovely Mitch slap when you watch "The Prayer," but if you really want Mitch slaps I recommend"Bohemian Rhapsody"; it contains at least three of them. Also, you might want to check out SuperFruit. SuperFruit was a KZbin vlog that Mitch and Scott posted to every week when they were living together, and for the most part it's a comedic gold mine. For something that's practically a reverse Mitch slap I recommend their "FROZEN MEDLEY (feat. Kirstie Maldonado)": kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnKYZHipo9-ff8k Be sure to stick around after the obvious end of the video for the blooper reel.

Boy, did the Pentaholics find a great reactor in you! Bring all the nerdiness and geekism you can muster, they also proudly claim the choir nerd label for themselves. Lovely, lovely reaction, so thanks. Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King is another example of how completely that can dominate an anthem, and someone else mentioned their Recording Evergreen mini-doc, which is a great behind-the-scenes look at a recent-ish Christmas album. They are notoriously hard workers, and that piece shows that. When you get a moment, please create a PTX playlist so we can keep current on recommendations. Peace …

Scott is probably the most important and equally underrated member. Everybody loves Kirstie for her looks (I only say: „Can you feel the love tonight?“) or her insanely fast vibrato, or loves getting „Mitch-slapped“ or falls for Kevin‘s insane beat/ and cello boxing, but do not realize, that Scott is not only the „opening singer“ (in most cases), but also the most versatile of them all! He can take over the base, but also can go very high, almost as Mitch („Coffee in bed“)!

Nothing against Kevin; he's both an incredible musician and one of the world's kindest people, and I adore him, but people don't realize how much Matt contributes to the richness of Kevin's percussion. With Avi it was easy - you ALWAYS noticed Avi's accompaniment - but Matt is more subtle than Avi; you don't notice that part of what you're hearing as drums is really Matt's bass. BTW, fun fact: Pentatonix goes to great lengths to protect their voices, for obvious reasons. One of the ways they do that is to drink lots of water. And guzzling water between songs is a really good way to also swallow air, leading to a need to burp. Kevin has said that it's very convenient for him that he's the beatboxer since he can just incorporate the burps into the percussion line. Kirstie gave him a dirty look.

For sure. I often say that their magic is that on the surface their stuff is easily digestible for the general public (which helps them be mainstream) but under the hood it's all so complex if you know what to look for (which is what keeps all the music nerds hooked!)

I'd love to see you react to their evolution videos! They're done in all 1 take. They do it about 4 times and then pick the best one, and it's amazing! My favorite are the evolution of Ariana Grande, Rhianna and Michael Jackson ❤️

A couple of my favorite videos are ones where they have collaborated with other amazing performers. My favorite cover that shows how winderful Kevin is at playing the cello while beatboxing is a collab they did with Lindsay Sterling, Imagine Dragons "Radioactive". Another collab they did was with Todrick Hall. "The Wizard of Ahhhs" is just a genius way of reimagining the musical story of "The Wizard of Oz" and is one of the most fun to watch!! I hope you're ready for this wonderful trip down this rabbit hole . One more for you to consider adding to your playlist is their cover of Queen's masterpiece "Bohemian Rhapsody". That one will just blow your mind....in a good way!!!

Can't wait to see you react to 'The Prayer'! But I would also love to see you react to and analyze 'Amazing Grace'. Mitch slaps you in his lower range, and Kirsty is on a whole new level. Definitely have to add that to your list and react to that soon! Also, Scott can't NOT use his hands when he sings lol. A good example is their version of 'Say Something'. He has to grip the backs of two chairs in order to not use his hands. It's also a song that Kevin cello-boxes and Kirstie takes the lead. That's also in the top five of my PTX songs as well. Definitely need to check that one out!

Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody and Amazing Grace are some I’d recommend, but everything they do is awesome. Try their Evolution of Music, Evolution of Michael Jackson, and Evolution of Rihanna are all must see. Then if you want some of their original music “Sing” and “Can’t Sleep Love” so good.

Matt has a degree from Berklee College of Music and I think he focused his training on pop / musical theater. Like the "trio" (Kirstie, Mitch and Scott) he did children's theater when he was young and his father was a music pastor. Unlike the other PTX members, he is a naturally confident performer on stage.

I'm sure somebody else already sent you this, but if you really want to get the full range of Matt's talent, watch "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch." He's lead and he knocks it completely out of the park. For his full bass, watch "New Rules/Are you that somebody."

Love your take on singing. Yes a lot of great material; Im on my 8th year of clicking on reactions to them. Must put their Gold cover by Kiara high on your list. Listen to a few seconds of the original first and see what they do with a highly produced and tech heavy song

BTW, this video was shot by Ben Hausdorff, Kirstin's partner and now her fiance, as well as the father of her daughter Elliana. He also shot the Recording of Evergreen documentary that's mentioned elsehwere in the comments. (Also, subscribing for more Pentatonix.)
