They squeezed every last drop they had out of themselves for this performance. Pure passion. The arrangement, the first Mitch slap and how that was set up. So powerful (and so brave and impactful to stand there alone trusting yourself and your voice to carry you). Scott literally lost his voice that day and got a shot from the doctor of something to bring it back enough to do the show. They were RUN DOWN by this point. Many weeks with like 2 days off and constant singing and little sleep. He literally twists himself like a dishrag wringing out that last note.

Thanks for doing these. No you don’t really get it. This was the week voting was turned over to America First the show wanted them to have a main singer in each group, they wanted Mitch to sing low and hide his sexuality , Scott and Kirstie had each had a year of college. Mitch was very shy , first time away from home , missed his high School graduation to be on show He had been made fun of for his voice in high school so it really took all of them to convince Mitch to do this. Also they had a week to do this and Scott’s voice was completely shot at the end. He gave it everything he had

This is the last performance for the judging. There are two other performances, but they are not judged. In one of them, you can tell that the judged performances have taken a toll and their voices are tired.

It's not actually that their voices were tired, there was like 2-3 months in between this performance and the finale ones. It was the monitor feedback that was off so they couldn't really hear each other enough.

At this point in the season, the groups were doing two songs a week (plus the all-groups opening number of the week). This was the second song the same week they did the "Forget You"/"Since You've Been Gone" mashup, so they only had a week since the previous show to do the arrangement and choreography for both songs.

@@anthonycauterucci7862 It's been proven his mom did not have cancer, she wasn't even sick. That was something some fans came up with to justify him leaving. I don't actually know the real reason, and do not pretend to know, but I do find the timing of his leaving, and his first solo song coming out as real suspicious. But I doubt that's the reason, more of a coincidence. But I knew something was up with the fake crying he was doing during his "I'm leaving" video.

Lol, it’s amazing the degree of anticipation that I had for YOU to see this performance! I’ve seen it dozens of times and I NEVER tire of seeing it❤! They absolutely gave it all they had in this performance!!! In my opinion, this set the bar for what we know as PENTATONIX…We have come to expect this level of perfection from PTX, and they have DELIVERED!!! Another reason that I love this performance is…it’s kind of an “In Your Face” performance by Mitch! I don’t know whether you are aware, but NBC (the company that has fallen all over itself virtusignaling its wokeness) actively campaigned against, or downright forbade, them from spotlighting Mitch’s beautiful voice, as they considered it too “gay” for primetime🤬 Once again we have a major corporation deciding that we are too stupid to decide for ourselves what we like!!! Sorry for the rant…it is a stunning display of their talent and your reaction is, per usual, excellent!!!

There's a really high res, tiny account CE9879 (like, 31 subs) that has Without You (with Judge comments) and the Nick Lachey performance Just One Night (Una Noche). They look great but do not sound on par with the rest of them, TBH. With Lachey in particular you get the sense that they didn't know how to arrange the song without coming across rudely to him or something... it lacks a spark for sure.

The very first mitch slap. Why only until the last performance? Well since you asked, that was due to show producers and network and whomever else finances and writes for that show thought mitch looked and sounded "too gay." So mitch wss dressed like a boy and told to sing on lower register...more "manly" you know. They were a "family" show after all. Ive always said having that shows prize record label drop them was the best thing that ever happened to them. They took it to youtube and carved a name for themselves with people, and the entire forgotten acapella genre many groups now enjoy . They had time to develop their signature sounds organically, not under the micromanaging lens of a record label. If they had won the prize and was signed that early, whom knows where everyone would be

There's a lot more performances, but you have to filter for them. And the reason Mitch didn't get to come out to play much was because the producers wanted each group to have a "lead" performer. Plus, they weren't thrilled with the lgbtq+ community, which all of the trio are. However, if you find the link to the opening songs for season 3, they include all of the competing groups. As you progress through the videos, the solos are given mostly to the best groups. So you will see some people pop up a lot. In addition, PTX shows up for all of the Christmas shows that the sing off had. There's a live performance that isn't as good because the ear pieces or mics weren't working properly and they couldn't hear each or themselves. The show got it fixed for the second half, and then PTX sang a song with nick Lachey. Also, they sang their swan song after they won, so I recommend you watch the finale.

Kirstie does not identify as LGBTQ+. Someone higher up on the show-either NBC or the show runners-did straight wash their chosen charity in the finale, the Trevor Project. I did hear after the show that Mitch had been discouraged from showing off his higher range, although that might have been his own choice instead.

@kathyastrom1315 I heard that too. But I recently read that Kirstie is bi. Nothing wrong with that. I do like how PTX was able to incorporate all of the tricks and voices in. I was heartbroken when Avi left. But I also wish that they had utilized his voice more.

Man, you sure made us wait for this! It was a wonderful performance and they finally let Mitch show off his beautiful voice. There are two more performances, and I hope you react to both. One was "Without You", which was like a love song they were singing to each other. The other was "Una Noche" which they sang with Nick Leshay. They sounded great and Kirstie has a fun (and sexy) solo segment. Then there was a show where they say who won, and it is fun to see their reaction, but it's a LOT of time waiting in suspense. The following season of the show (the one which Home Free won), they came back as a guest and sang a great version of "I Need Your Love". It was nice to see them on the show relaxed and not worried about losing!

Dog days was really sweet as Mitch was mentally flipping off the producers of the show, and you know he was doing that by the way he moved his eyes and looked to the side at the camera with that big grin. After the producers told him that if he sang with that gay voice they would be disqualified immediately, but once it went to America to vote the producers couldn't do anything about it, so he showed out.

I forgot to say in my earlier comment, when at the end, the judge was talking about Avi being in the zone and shaking, if you go back just a little on the video, when right at the end of the song, it looks like Avi grabs Mitch in a hug to congratulate him, the truth was Mitch turned around just in time, to see Avi, starting to walk, and grabbed him, and blocked him, as Avi was about to go give the producers a piece of his mind about how they had treated Mitch. After the audience had shown Mitch so much love, he had the ammunition he needed to get downright ugly. But Mitch stopped him before he got them in trouble.

in regards to your comment about how Mitch should have done more leads in the show, politics is the answer to why not. The show directors wanted a single lead, and I have read in some other places that the producers didn't want to be obvious about Mitch's "orientation."

Shawn the judge and first Pentaholic was able to see pentatonix at their Christmas concert the other day. It must be crazy for him to see how big they’ve become and how much better they’ve got from their time in the sing off. I’m sure those judges that saw potential in Ptx, never even knew it would get this big. So this is the last performance that counted as far as being judged. There’s one more performance but unfortunately it’s their one of their worst. They couldn’t hear themselves and started pretty out of tune. Most reactors watch it anyway and it’s usually a let down after watching this one. I would stop here if I were you and either move in to the announcement of them winning or watching Superfruit react to Ptx 4 years later.

@@annmc3878 For sure. It might be that they didn't push it really hard but the implications and "suggestions" were there. Clark (which I assume is who you were talkking about) was a few years older and maybe more un-apologetically secure in himself as you said.
