These are still the de facto "go-to" videos for new K3/K3ii owners, yes, even in 2019! I just sold my K70 and bought a very lightly used K3ii. Thanks for these!

Very thorough videos plus the really in depth articles. Thank you for this incredible learning experience. Being a long time analog pentaxian (starting with a Kx in 1976, thank you again grandma) , the K5 was my first DSLR, then a (used) K5 II. A month ago a K3 silver was beckoning and I couldn't resist (the included silver battery-grip helped in that regard) . So for the last week I was exploring this camera with this guide, thank you again for this gem.

Accidentally shifted mine to bleach bypass on a Vietnam trip. It was so bright outside that I did not pickup on it until later editing them. Some looked good, but it took a lot of editing to try to get the color back to look near normal....was glad I caught it and it was only on one outing there that it happened, it would have been a total bummer if all the shots turned out like those turned out.

Hi David, In your Pentax K-3 & K-3II video manual 3 you use the K-3 II when discussing the flash mode. My K-3 shows more options: trailing curtain sync, manual discharge and wireless master. Do you have more information about those options? Your series is GREAT! I've learn more from your series than from all other sources combined! Please keep it up.
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The K-3 has additional flash options that the II lacks because the K-3 has the on-camera flash. I will do an addendum video on the flash modes when I have a second DSLR that films in 16:9 to use. I meant to do that when I had the K-3 but was also finishing my wedding plans that same month so I didn't have quiet as much free time as I'd expected. :D

I have a K3 and just got the K3ll also. I am enjoying your videos very much. I am quite comfortable with my K3 but now know about some nice functions that I have never discovered before. Thank you for enlightening me, 🙂 I am curious about white space settings. You provided great explanations and examples but I thought WB was not applied if you shoot in raw mode? Thanks for the great videos,
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You are, I think, correct on the WB setting in raw. The raw file will record color temperature and green-magenta, both of which are easily adjustable. I don't know if those are influenced by the WB setting or not, however.

This is great! Always used Pentax Cameras - from film to K20D, K5II's and K3! can you tell me which of your tutorial covers "Selecting the focusing area (AF Point)" - the one thing I'm not 100% au fait with! many thanks.

Very useful video, thank you! However, I think the custom image finishings DO impact not only jpeg but also raw images. The same applies to white balance, it seems to be recorded in the raw file.
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I know that the WB settings affect raw files (I think the mechanism there is that they change the color temperature, which is easily fixed in a raw editor) But the custom image settings should not affect the raw files as those are only for jpegs.

Metering mode changes the way that the camera interprets the light it receives. I'll be doing a video this summer on how meter modes work.

Hi David - really enjoyed watching your set of videos for my Pentax K3 ! wondered if you could help me with a problem I encountered today with it? I use the TV (Shutter Priority) rarely but when I did today on the K3 - I noticed that when I took the image the Shutter speed changed even thought I had it set on TV mode? I tried it with my K5ii's and it stayed on the same TV setting that I had set? Any ideas why this is happening? Or what I may be doing wrong in the settings? many thanks for your guidance !

No mention of the green button?!?! A most useful button, but almost totally undocumented in the K-3 II manual for some reason. There is a lot on it in the Pentax forums... operation is similar amongst all green button equipped Pentax products. Also, does this series of videos end at part 3?
@DavidHancock
@DavidHancock 8 жыл бұрын
+rwbishop You are correct. I forgot the green button in my outline. That was a huge oversight on my part. The series will be six videos, but video 4 goes over EVERY menu item and is about 3 hours long, so it's taking some time to edit (it takes anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes to edit one minute of video, and I don't have the free time that I did before I got married.) After 4, 5 and 6 will be relatively quick but 4 is the big log jam right now.

I think that the limit on my K-3ii Astrotracer is about 120 seconds. After that, it either blurs or stops the exposure automatically. Here is a nice shot of the Big Dipper being photobombed by a planes flashing lights. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1626098320778870&set=gm.10155227366381697&type=3&theater&ifg=1
