Nice video, one thing came into my mind, if the meter needle is at the center and does not move at all, then you have a dead battery or broken meter. Fortunately the battery is very cheap type, a LR44 or equivalent.

I have three, I still use them, and none of them have needed servicing, they just seem to go on and on. Also, the Pentax 50mm F1.2 is a really nice lens, and the way the manual focus feels, is like a knife through butter!

Some old SLRs last a lifetime, really. I have 3 manual focus cannons (all purcahsed in the 80s) that still work great: AE-1P, A1, and F1N.

I have one life favorite thing is that the battery only Powers light meter so you can still use the camera if the battery is dead or the light longer functions properly.

Good clear explanation, and most of it is also applicable to many other 35mm SLR film cameras. 2:08 : That advert makes an interesting read. It shows Pentax were aware of the importance of providing a generous throat size. 2:47 : Easier than the red dots, you can align the small white dome on the lens with the lens release button on the body. Can do it blindfold. Not all 3rd party lenses had the white dome though.

My first Pentax was a K1000, that I got as birthday present in 1985, when I was 12. I still use it but I added 2 MEs, an MX, a KM and KX and an LX. Needless to say that my DSLR is a K-5...

That was some present! . I got a Kodak Instamatic for my birthday. It came with B/W Film. I took a photo of my two sisters, my mother, her mother, and her mother's mother who we called Little Grandma because she was so short. I think it was the only Photo I ever saw of them all together at the same time.

got a mint K1000, had its defective prism replaced with a perfect one extracted from a dead Canon T50. never had an analog SLR and I am only waiting for a sunny day to try it. life is good.

6:57 I’ve been looking and looking for someone to demonstrate focusing with the microprism viewfinder. especially some tips. from what I see here is that hitting some sort of parallel lines makes focus adjustment more obvious

Depends on which version of K1000 you have. Early made in japan versions didn’t have split image focusing aid just a round prism focusing aid.

What is the vrand of the adapter you used in this video? I bought one and it's so hard to take off.

I only suggest genuine Pentax adapters. You can find some that say ‘Pentax Japan’ and some that say ‘Asahi Pentax Japan’. Don’t buy third-party. It’s never worth it imo
