Brilliant video Lee , and what a lovely lass you have. Professional or Hobbyist who cares , and the fact that the two of you got out with your cameras and took great photographs regardless of who took them the two of you had a great time. Thanks Tam, Hannah says your awesome 👌 It was really fun to do something a little different with both of us using the cameras, nothing special in terms of images but lots of fun! Hopefully she might have caught the photography bug hehe (could mean more gear if she has 😄)

That feeling from the first time you take interest in photography, that first camera, that's Pentax for me. I tried em1 mkii but the Pentax makes me want to take more photos. Wish I could just trade the Olympus for a good Pentax lens. Thanks for uploads

Yep It's a wonderful feeling. Pentax is that camera for me too. I've not had too much experience with other brands to date so I'd be interested to see if I feel as Comfortable using other stuff. Surely you could sell your Olympus or trade at a camera store towards some nice Pentax glass?

This episode was totally enjoyable, you two. On several occasions, I felt a broad smile forming on my face. Not because anybody was acting stupid, but because you two are looking great together, and because the fun you were having with the cameras and in each other's company was tangible. Results-wise, I was struck by how fast Hannah seems to be learning, even coming up with some of the winner shots, to my eye. But then, she has a gifted teacher in you too.

Cheers Marc. Hannah really took to it, one thing she did say off camera was that she had some trouble with the viewfinder as in the exposures didn't look like the scene she was seeing through the optical viewfinder. So I showed her quickly the exposure comp with a quick explanation, it's very interesting that we are so used to the OVF when most people are used to phones or EVF. But yes we had a great time out with the cameras & something I'm sure will be happening again in the future (I'll have to up my game though 😄)

@@LeeIveson There sure is a learning curve to being able to anticipate, to a degree, what the camera will be seeing vs. one's own sensory perception in the OVF. But I've learned photography this way, ever since when I first peered through the - excellent for its time - OVF of the Minolta X-700 back in 1983. Still baulking at the concept of "watching a TV image" of a scene rather than engaging directly with it through optical glass, which also feels more creative to me as it requires a little imagination, but I know this is becoming a minority view of sorts. 😁

There is always something about those Pentax colors. I wish phase detect autofocus worked in live view on the k70. However it's almost as if Pentax needs to be experienced. The used market for a k1 very tempting.

I love the colours from Pentax cameras. I've seen some beautiful colours from those with the CCD sensors which I'd love to try out at some point. And yep the K1 is on a watch list, just not sure if I need one but then I could say that for the other 3 of the 4 APSC bodies I have at the moment 😀

I’ve owned both cameras although I only had the K3ii for a very short time as it had a major fault so I never really got the chance to evaluate it properly. That said it felt absolutely right to me if you understand what I mean although I did like my K70. I returned it to the supplier and brought a KP which I still have as a replacement. As for the K70 loved it but due to fear of yet another aperture block failure ( Ks2 and K50) I part exchanged it for the K3iii which is a totally different piece of kit. As for shots on the video I see very little difference IQ wise on any of them but suspect if they were printed at a large size then IQ might become more apparent. As for composition (my weakness) there isn’t to me a great difference between you and Hannah so I suspect she’s a star pupil with and inspired teacher. BTW its good to see another Pentax user in the North East where we’re a bit of a rarity.

Yep I definitely know what you mean about the K3/ii feeling right. The K70 is also nice for me as my hands aren't massive which I could see being a problem for some. IQ the K70 is better, not by loads but it definitely is. Yeah nothing special from the day in terms of images, Hannah is definitely a natural, looking forward to some more photo walks with her now 😀. You've got the two best Pentax crop bodies then Barry in the KP & K3iii, both look like brilliant cameras and again the IQ will have jumped up a level on those bodies. That's awesome that your North East based & shooting Pentax! At least I know I'm not the only Pentaxian in the North East now 🤣

Thanks mate. That was me trying to be artistic & take a panning motion shot of the river . . . It was a fail 🤣 Yeah she has a good eye for composition, I keep meaning to show her how to operate the cameras . . . But she might get better than me so I'll leave that idea alone haha 😄 No joking aside she is actually interested in what I talk about with photography all the time, so we definitely need to get out with the cameras together more often.

This was great fun to watch. Hannah has talent! Loved her spider web and very last shot with the light rays. What does the K3ii have over the K3 that made you want to upgrade? Just curious. I've been thinking of picking up a second body myself (have a K3i right now). Edit: I was thinking K70 because I want better low light performance for photos of my daughter indoors. But I've gotten better with an external flash so maybe a 2nd body with identical controls would be good. Or none at all and pocket the $. Haha

Hey Joe. Yeah I think Hannah may have beaten me in this one 😄 she secretly listens to me blabbing on about cameras & settings a little too much I think 🤔 I still have the K3 as well, I bought the K3ii purely on the fact I'd been using the K3 for most of my outdoor action photography last year, there's not really too much difference between the two apart from the GPS feature on the mk ii and no pop up flash because of that. A second body could be just as good as anything if you need it. I know myself that I probably have more gear than I need haha 😄 your doing the right thing by improving your skills I would say! That reminds me I need to brush up on my OCF photography!

Lee I have exactly the same cameras the difference I find in the two is I limit the K3-11 to ISO 6500 and the K70 to ISO 8500 The K70 is a better low light camera for sure . The K70 I like the flip out screen. The K3-11 I always end up shooting more pictures than I realize. Lee I also have the Pentax *istDL from 2005 and the K100D from 2006. Its interesting to use all four camera bodies. The older ones I have to boost the contrast in editing while the newer cameras it makes no difference.

Interesting, I definitely agree the K70 has superior low light capabilities to the K3ii. I'm comfortable putting both at ISO 12800 if it means getting the shot & playing with noise reduction in post. I need to pick up some older cameras like those you have mentioned, I'd really like to see what can done with those & how far the tech has come. I love the stuff Snappiness does over on his channel with older gear.

@@LeeIveson if l had the cash l'd probably upgrade but at mo l got the k-70 with loads of lens and the Panasonic Lumix DMC G7 and tz60 which are great cameras for my travels.

Thank you for the video! I believe it would be better to take pictures from a trypod with the only lens to get the all the same except cams. And compare details.

Thanks! I agree it would have made more sense to do that but it was more of a general walk out casual test, if it can even be called a test. But yes for more of an accurate test that makes sense.

Really enjoyed the video. I suspect the better IQ maybe the K70, specs wise other than the astrotracer I don’t see much benefit to the K3 II over the mark I, but only used both for a few mins so in practical use there maybe a bigger difference . I’m pondering the k-3 III, but even with the tax free shopping it’s expensive. Honestly if the K70/KP had a buffer of 15-20 raw I’d be happy with that, don’t know why Pentax crippled the KP buffer. Not sure which body you’d sell but if it was me I’d sell one of the K-3s, or sell all of them and get the K3 III 🤓

Thanks mate. Yeah the K70 is better low light & IQ for sure. The reason I bought the K3ii was Purley as it was a good price for one & two I'd been using the K3 all of last year to shoot the action sports photography as its got more buttons on the body to help me quickly change settings for the fast moving action, don't get me wrong I think the K70 has some features that are way better but 90% of my photography last year was based around the outdoor action. I wouldn't sell all my bodies for the K3iii as I'd have no backup & I personally can't justify the price of that camera even though its the best Pentax APSC to date. I've filrted with selling the K70 & saving for a mirroless system with animal eye AF & subject tracking, not that my gear can't get those shots but just to make my life easier. But I'm pretty sure I'm always going to have a Pentax & some nice glass in my cupboard. (Also I have major gear acquisition syndrome 🤣)
