PENTAX was the first manufacturer in Japan to discover the enormous
potential of SLR cameras, at a time when rangefinder cameras were the most
popular style of shooting.
The intuitive shooting process made possible by the SLR mechanism - the
lens, mirror, and prism viewfinder - can best be described as pure joy.
PENTAX SLRs have showcased a number of camera innovations over the
years. For over 100 years, since its foundation in 1919, PENTAX has always
been both passionate and dedicated to the development of photography and
cameras. It truly was the love and passion PENTAX had for SLR cameras and
photography that made it possible for users around the world to fully enjoy
photography, and to turn it from a mere tool for keeping records to a more
free-form means of artistic expression.

A few more points could have been made about the technical superiority of optical viewfinders: * Zero lag. * Infinite refresh rate. * Zero battery usage. * Avoid stuttering which can be jarring. * Don't impose a certain white-balance which can be off-putting. * Always feature the environmentally appropriate brightness. EVF brightness and white-balance can be inappropriate and neither of these parameters can be quickly adjusted, at least not on Fuji/Panasonic cameras. To top it off, OVFs allow the sensor to be free from on-sensor PDAF sensels that can cause banding and striping

I purchased Pentax 645z in 2018, for portrait and product photography, can’t even think of switching to other system, amazing image quality, the dynamic range is unbeatable, beautiful skin tones, I tried many brands but nothing compared to my 645z, super happy with it, please please please keep making medium format cameras, I will die as a Pentaxian. Just for your information that we don’t have Pentax service center in Dubai!!!

I have several Pentax SLR and DSLR cameras and really I am pleased that you are continuing the R&D of DSLR cameras. I really like using an optical viewfinder when shooting still images.

Very pleased to see the vision laid out here. I love my Pentax gear and am keen to see it continue into the future for stills photography in it's simplest and interactive form. Love the optical viewfinder. But there really needs to be a huge drive to attract younger photographers over the next few years... as we old dogs can't keep funding Pentax forever.

I really appreciate that you don't follow the trend for mirrorless without thinking: Don't get me wrong, mirrorless surely has its merits; but so does DSLR, which is just a quite different concept. A mirrorless Pentax would be great, but not if this draws resources needed to make a fantastic DSLR.

Well we now know for sure where the future of Pentax is headed. SLR cameras are what made Pentax in the past and will continue with the DSLR now and in the future. I have no problem with that. I don't have to worry about getting new lenses to fit a new mirror-less camera system. My modern K-mount, DA, SMC, and my old screw mount M42 are still good to go. Now I wait to see what the new Pentax APS-C camera will be all about.

Interesting approach and direction for Pentax. What I appreciate about this company is its devotion to the the act of photography and a commitment to providing good quality equipment that makes photography a pleasure for enthusiasts. It’s time for a new flagship apsc camera without a doubt. My K3 is getting long in the tooth. That said, I just want a more capable camera to put behind my Pentax glass. I can live without a MILC and an EVF. What I want is a solid, weatherproof dslr camera, with excellent autofocus, IBIS, good low light capabilities, and excellent ergonomics. I believe Pentax can deliver and I think I am not alone in feeling that way.

But it was the car manufacturer that came up with the most fundamental and useful technical innovations, many of the best cars and always stayed ahead of the competition, at the best price. As a lay enthusiast I love both my k-5 and my K-1 mark I and would like to save up to buy a GRIII when I can. Thank you to the Pentax team for their dedication and the magnificent cameras they enable us to use. ありがとうございました

Hi there. I am a fan of Pentax cameras. I use Pentax digital and film SLR. One of the things I enjoy the most about the digital SLR is the tropicalization. I must admit there is a flaw in the design. The back lens cap does not cover the rubber seal. When I bring along a set of lenses I must put them in a watertight bag to protect them. It is quite sad because the lens itself is watertight. If the back lens cap had a larger diameter it would go over the rubber seal and make the lens watertight when off the camera. That would be a great addition to Pentax quality. I am surprised you did not think about that. Can’t wait to see the next APSC SRL. Cheers.

I have to agree that the digital viewfinder does not give me correct pictoral values, particularly when it comes to adjusting light/dark. Too often when I get the view the way I want it the actual picture is greatly underexposed. I miss my old film SLRs in that regard. I still use a Pentax 645, though.

My dream, a small Spotmatic Digital, compatible with my FA-limited to go on weekends or holidays. My K1 Mark2 is great but sometimes we want to be smaller to travel.... But GR3 is not the solution for DLRS enthusiasts

I hope DSLR will be around. At least for sports and action, nothing beats an OVF. I started out not fully understanding exposure, so I was heavily reliant on the EVF to get my exposure right. It was so convenient that even now that I am much better at nailing exposure, I don't want to switch back to OVF. I know there are people who prefer how an OVF looks and that it doesn't drain battery.

I love SLR/DSLR but if you develop a mirrorless camera with a new mount, please make sure that the K Mount Lenses are fully adaptable 😍😘

Total geeks. You have to admire their perseverance and partisanship for SLRs. This is more a character study than anything else. Nothing new about the forthcoming kit.

A fairly lame brained presentation with no perspective of any exciting development. To come up with a slightly improved optical viewfinder and silver painted camera bodies and lenses is not cutting it for me. If that is all there is on the next 'APSC flagship' then Pentax will probably shrivel away in some dark niche corner because in 5 years time hardly anyone will remember APSC DSLR's. A company cannot survive on a handful of diehard ageing photo nerds. At least I have found a camera system on which my nice Pentax ltd. lenses really shine (it's not Fuji). My 2 Pentax bodies (K5II's, K 3) were good cameras with that fatal flaw: Unacceptably unreliable AF and MF focus acquisition. Metering wasn't all that great either. I could not detect any worthwhile mention of improvement on these matters.
