That Helianthus is gorgeous!

I found Helianthus is one of the best yellows on the market - and very readable for a bright ink. Alt-Goldgrün is a terrific shader and very wet. It's Kling-N-er by the way (I got this wrong, too) and Blue Maa-re (Italian long open vowel: blue ocean). R&K in Leipzig, Germany make some of the best value-for-money inks. Well done for popularising them.

Another great one is Akkerman Gele Oker van Frans, very similar in colour, more of an apricot in colour I would say.

Rohrer & Klingner is one of my favorite brands. I have several of their inks and they all work well. One of my favorite inks in my collection is Smaragdgrun, which is very similar to Akkerman Denneweg Groen. Also, Solferino is a gorgeous color.

Rohrer and Klingner inks make me think that my ink tastes might be less than developed. Their tones just don't speak to me when it comes to handwriting, yet I can see that they are well chosen from a fine art perspective. There is one exception, Dokumentus Dunkelblau (Dark Blue). This is a water resistant permanent ink. It behaves exceptionally well and it has the most exquisite tone, a dark blue with a hint of violet. There is some stuff about it chemically bonding with the cellulose in the paper which is why it is a good security ink as well. I would be happy to write with it as an everyday ink. Thanks for your never ending ink explorations. They are so very good and useful.

Alt gold grun is one of my favourites. Soferino is also excellent. And their ink misers are good. Also fit Waterman and Noodlers inks.

All gorgeous looking inks. Hard to pick a favourite 😅. I have "Éclat de Saphir" always at hand in two pens. I also have "Ambre de Birmanie". I love it. With broad nibs I find to recognize plenty of shading. Regards, Patrick

This reminded me how much I like my R&K ink. It gets overlooked, which is unfortunate. I tend to be pretty conservative with my ink choices, with rare exception and aside from samples, sticking with mainly Diamine and R&K, with Platinum for waterproof ink. I really enjoy your ink videos, Dave. Thank you!

That pen is doing a remarkable job of showing off those inks. Way better than I get with a fountain pen, esp the alt goldgrun, which always turns out like Alt Spülwasser for me.

I have Morinda (red) and Scabiosa (smokey purple) from them and thoroughly enjoy both.

Very nice and useful video! I have used a fair amount of Rohrer&Klingner permanent sketch ink and Scabiosa and Salix, the latter being permanent iron gall inks. However, I’m a bit apprehensive about putting those inks in my vintage pens. Every one of the inks shown in your video could fill that gap in my ink desk. Nice colours!

Can’t wait for The second set, it has a few of my favourite colours. solferino, cassia, verdigris. From this set i like helianthus a lot. Seems like my kind of yellow, bright and saturated.

I find it odd how dry and thin a lot of these look on a lot of other peoples writing samples but they look fantastic here. I’ve been looking for more inks in that Alt Bordeaux color to pair with my HS Chiantishire. I have MB Antoine de Saint Exupery ink that is quite nice but expensive

I am dip testing the inks, so that might equate to why they look quite wet, although I've found quite a few of the R&K inks quite wet writers for myself.

Thanks for the review. You might be interested in the R&K Verdigris, one of my favourite R&K inks besides Alt-Goldgrün and Alt-Bordeaux. Depending on the nib you get something between a darker teal and a black-teal, And then there are the two nice irongall inks (Salix and Scabiosa). Cassia is a very nice violet and Solferino is an intense magenta almost like Iroshizuku Yama-Budo but brighter.

I always wanted to to try Alt-Goldgrün from R&K, and I’m kind of curious about Helianthus because I don’t normally go for yellow inks like this one, but because it’s so readable, I may actually want to to buy this as a sample first before I hop onto a bottle because I’ll never know what to expect with this ink until I tried it...

Helianthus is a nice colour and performs quite well compared to a lot of yellow inks I find. It's always wise to buy as a sample just in case you don't like a bottle, or if you don't mind the extra cost and hoarding the bottle if you no longer like the ink. Or you could give it away to friends if anyone wants the ink or trade it for another.

Bordeaux wine on ageing starts to lose the red and gradually takes on a brownish tint. Bottles I have drunk from the 1950s only have a reddish tint to them. In general red wines get lighter in colour and white ones get darker. Wine ageing process is fascinating. They should back up their names with a free bottle of Chateau Latour from 1955 with every purchase.

I usually find Pilot Iroshizuki Kon-Peki well lubricated or Pelikan Edelstein Topaz

Is ther something wrong with my choice if I actually like ALL the colours ...wondering if I were just greedy...Nope they are all beautiful colours/shades... Ps Glad you also do a writing sample alongside ...Do you use the same pen to do the writing or have pens inked prior to the video?

I think the R&K range of colours are quite good and very underrated. I would like to get some more, but I already have over 300 bottles of ink, so I'm trying to pace myself a little. I use the same pen for each writing sample on the video, I clean it out before testing another ink. It's quite a long process, what is effectively usually a 15 min video turns into over an hour to record.

No they are water based fountain pen ink.

Thanks! All of the inks are my own and most of the pens are my own, I have to buy them like most people. There are some pens that I get on loan from retailers to review, I do mention that in the reviews though, so you can always see which are my own pens and which are on loan and will have to be returned.

I just don't spend on other things and manage to save a lot and that gives me the money to spend elsewhere.

No these are the fountain pen inks, the waterproof inks are the irongall inks.

@@jinkim9257 it depends...do your research. I haven't had any issues with their Scabiosa iron gall, but I keep it out of my more expensive pens and only in converters to minimize ink to metal contact...love the ink, but am always cautious with which pens I put it in.

Rohrer & Klingner do a range called document inks which I believe are more permanent / waterproof type inks. Maybe check those out. Other brands like KWZ do a range of Irongall inks which I believe are more permanent. Diamine also do a range called Registrar ink which is a more permanent ink.
