I feel like we should go a bit easy on Emily herself being tied to Scientology since it's a cult she was born into and she probably can't get out, but at the same time idk how I feel about bringing that baggage to Linkin Park...

I've listened to black metal that overtly brings in heat and extreme views. Emily's being a Scientologist isn't going to bother me in the slightest as long as the next album isn't an alt-rock album all about Xenu and the Galactic Federacy. Unrelated, Scientology would be dope material for a cheesy power metal band.

the other people in the band have more at stake than any of the fans do. they have to work with her and perform with her. If they are okay with it, I am not sure how anyone who doesn't actually have to interact with her would care more. if you see it in the lyrics of some new song, then fair enough....

Audioslave is a bad comparison if you ask me. That was an entirely different concept from RAtM. Plenty of bands continue on with a new singer, like ACDC. Chester didn't own the brand, he wasn't the leader of the band, and if I remember right, he wasn't a founding member, so they did exist without him in some form.

Jamie Bennington seems to be spiraling big time & has a lot of controversy involving everyone that was close to his dad Chester in recent years... Tilinda (Chester's window) even has a restraining order against him... & he has beef with "Dead By Sunrise"... Not a good look at all... Very heartbreaking as the family seem to be in shambles over him. Knowing that mental illness runs in the family, I can only hope he gets help & that others don't feed into his manic state... Other than that, personally I think its a bit over bloated noise & reactions for a band that everyone deeply cares about as a way of dealing with some form of grief for Chester. Emily can't openly speak out against the cult as she would lose family & horrific things would come from that if so... she's openly gay, to which the cult also don't tolerate. I think she's stuck between a rock & a hard place... she's human after all, we all have Skelton's from our past but I know that means not everyone should get a pass either. I couldn't agree more that the key changes were not the best move! They should really revert back to the original as Mike was also struggling to compensate but give it time & they'll settle in & figure it out. Mike & the guy have every right to continue the band they started & worked their whole life on & nobody is forgetting Chester, in fact, over the last 2 years, they are as popular as ever & bringing in new fans, which is upholding Chester's legacy ♥

Linkin Park was the first band I got really into in my teen years. The first music I heard that resonated with me as a clinically depressed kid from a troubled home. The music let me know I wasn't alone. That other people hurt. That it doesn't have to be the end. It was music like this that kept me from killing myself. Genuinely. Angry ass music has always been one of those things that can calm me down no matter what, and to this day Linkin Park is one of my go-tos when I feel like I'm about to crumble to pieces. That being said. I do not like that they replaced Chester. Dude was one of a kind. You could find someone who can mimic his voice perfectly, but they'll never be able to sing with the emotion he had in those songs. It's hard to replicate that in a song you didn't help create. Also, M. Shinoda caught into the crypto and NFT grifts, so I'm not at all surprised he'd like someone who is a scientologist. I try not to hear news about him because it makes me realize he's probably a trash human, and that makes me sad.

I've listened to a few song with Emily Armstrong in it and with all the drama aside her voice quality is harsh but she handles it pretty well from the songs I've heard her sing. It may have been a bad move to let her sing covers in a live crowd like that due to the very noticeable voice quality difference. To be honest I've always seen it as a mistake for most singers to try to emulate another singers voice or style. I'm happy that she, Emily, didn't do try imitation because singers sound at their best when they sing like themselves. She can't take Chester's place but she can make her own next to where he once stood. With the voice quality difference and nostalgic fans like myself it is a tall order but with time it could work out. Not sure what's going on with the tone changes. It may be because of Emily's voice difference but its a tad jarring.

Though there are definitely some good reasons to criticize the recent choices, when i stumbled into it it was just "This is so disrespectful to Chester" "Chester is turning in his grave" and just so much NONSENSE that completely disregarded the fact that Linkin Park is a BAND not a one man project. Chester had his impact, but the songs aren't HIS alone. And that's what ive seen be the biggest (misguided) criticism towards the new direction

I think obviously the best possible way they could have handled this is to go the Audioslave/New Order route. I also think they obviously kept the Linkin Park name because they sold 40,000 tickets on literally one day's notice lol. A new band, even if it's the old band, could *never* do that. Linkin Park going on with their Band is fine to me. I was a fan of Emily before already, used to listen to Dead Sara in the past from time to time, but I didn't know anything about her. As an artist I think she fits in really well with te new Song, but I didn't hear her sing the old Songs. I can kind of understand the Danny Masterson thing. I mean if my friend would accused of a Crime, I would probably not believe it at first either, and she did distance herself from him now, so it is pretty suspect, but at least she distanced herself. But the Scientology thing is bad.

There are a lot of worse famous people than Emily that fans simp over. I think it's cool that they cuanged the key of the old songs to fit her vocals, its like they are distancing themselves from the old Linkin Park like "we are not gonna touch this, that was Chester and this is Emily". I don't know why, but Chester's son speaking out against her, to me it sounds like a rights issue, like that the family was taken out from the sales of the new albums more than an honest concern with the legacy

It seems like a lot of bands don't know when to cut it, when to end. Bands like this need to just create a new different band to do a different vibe with no ties to the former band. Let a band have it's legacy and high, don't drag it through the mud to stay in the game and stay relivant. Start a new game. This happens all to often but due to the nature of Linkin Park, it is far more of a spit in the face than other bands who do this.

My opinion: I don't care about the Scientology thing. As far as Emily goes I feel she has a good voice, and presence, but the band accomodating for her lack of range is kinda weak. Also I think Linkin Park should've just remained defunct after Chester's death or rebranded as a new band. To be honest their new song Emptiness Machine really isn't that good to me. It felt uninspired and I think they wanted to keep the Linkin Park name simply because regardless of if what they put out is good or not people will buy into it because of that brand name recognition. And, as far as Chester son speaking out, I feel a lot of people online were already saying what he did before he said it publicly and he just wanted to have that moment where he was "saying the right things" to get that clout of recognition.

Yeah I genuinely don't understand a lot of hypocritical, irrational, and absolutist standards these days. People attack her, and others in similar cases, for supporting someone they know and care about. It's insane and disloyal for people to cut ties and denounce someone as soon as it becomes unpopular to like them. People have a really bad habit of turning on people they know as soon as there's controversy nowadays. Granted, I'm sure she supported Masterson because the church of scientology pressured her to stand by him. People attacked Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis for standing by Masterson. Prior to the charges and trial, they had all been close friends for like 25 years. It's crazy. They had positive relationships with him and didn't really have a reason to believe he'd do those things. It's very reasonable for them to not blindly believe the accusers and to stand by him until it became clear that he did rape those women. I even saw people criticizing Danny Masterson's BROTHER, Christopher, for releasing a statement that supported his brother. Think about how crazy this culture has become: friends of 25 years and literal family are attacked for expressing their love and support for someone during the darkest, hardest, most life destroying time in his life. He was justifiably locked away for what he did, but prior to that it seemed only logical for people close to him to be in his corner. I'm not sure how and why people lost their minds to the point where they'd sever ties with friends and family so quickly like that, but it's kinda sickening that they have no true loyalty. After a criminal conviction, they can reevaluate their statements and denounce hin. However, this absolutist mindset that embraces a "never say anything positive about anyone who's under fire, and be ready to cut ties immediately" is one of the worst things about our society today.

@6:40 IDK man on the other hand you have a Marilyn Manson case where he got accused by one person. Then a bunch of other people came out and then they admitted they were pressured to falsely come out by the original "victim" and their team with a money incentive.

I don't hate her voice but she can't be Chester. If they want to move forward with new songs I'm down but old songs just don't work. I've heard all of them so many times and she just doesn't do it for me.

I’m quite split on the controversy: on one hand, I think it’s a terrible look for LP to replace Chester with someone who has had ties to the CoS and the Masterson case. Especially given Chester’s past with mental health struggles and SA. Maybe they should have done what RATM did and make a new band like Audioslave. On the other hand, it’s also not clear whether she still currently associates with the cult, and given how they are when openly denounced (blackmail, stalking, etc), she could have cut ties with them and is afraid to say it publicly. The fact that she’s openly LGBTQ and has reportedly hinted at leaving the cult in Dead Sara songs could lead one to believe that she doesn’t associate with them anymore. The other LP band members and Chester’s widow seem to support her, so maybe there’s something they know that we don’t? I guess we’ll have to see where things go when some of the controversy dies down 🤷‍♀️

The old songs with her voice do not sound too great. Their new song I like and curious for the album. I believe things could be better if Emily openly apologized to the victims she harrased while she was supporting Danny Masterson. Made to support him just sounds weird like who made you. Sucks as LP was a band that got me through alot and want to give the new LP a try but I don't know. I don't mind moving on with out Chester but not in this way.

I listened to The Emptiness Machine and it just doesn't scream LP, like at all. I've seen youtube vocalists doing LP covers that would have been better choices. Mike Shinoda loves his side projects and this should have been one of them. Don't tarnish the legacy of the band.

I honestly don't even care. Linkin Park is and has always been one of the most overrated bands ever. Along with bands like Korn back in the later 90s they helped destroy true metal and almost 30 years later, despite Chester dying, has me wondering why they are still trying to do the rock rebel thing at their age. People treating this Chester dude like he was some rock god and irreplaceable is silly. Hes no Peter Steele, a lot of people can sing those simple songs.

I myself have heard some very negative things about it, i personally dont think she is a bad singer by any means but i dont think she can replace chester on songs that chester sang, they need to make an album with her then i will have my mind made up

It's just understandable. People are overly excited by nostalgia and want, even NEED, Linkin Park to be back so they'll simp for it as hard as it gets. Actively and wilfully gaslighting themselves into saying it is great it is wonderfull it is the best etc etc. But it's okay to admit that the replacement isn't very good, at least not in this position and they should either change the band name or keep searching. Also another common heard point is that Chester wasn't the original or that he was not Linkin Park on his own and let's not fool ourselves, he very much was. They didn't become the huge succes they became if it weren't for Chester. Also, regarding people hating on Armstrong for being a woman... I've also seen the reverse people going out of their way to scream support precisely because she is a woman.

If Linkin Park members wanted to keep making music they should’ve just created a new band and moved on for example kinda what the Creed members did with Alter Bridge and everything would’ve been fine

I don’t like her being the lead. She has talent but her voice doesn’t sound right singing the originals. The key like you said just makes me feel like “this isn’t linkin park” it feels like I’m listening to a local teen band. I don’t care too much about the Scientology crap or that she’s a woman. A female vs male singing voice always can sound weird when going from one to the next. Hearing Dolly Parton sing tom petty or vice verse would be jarring. However, it can be done and can take time. However, changing the entire tune to fit her skill set should not be seen as acceptable. To me it damn near feels like dude wants to bang her with how out of place it feels as the only logical reasoning for the choice. Successful covers or remakes require similar voices or being faithful to the original, or completely taking the lyrics with a whole new energy which is risky. Like the cover of fast car, Tracy Chapman had a more masculine voice for a woman and was a lesbian so a guy singing it still worked overall with only one semi out of place line. Replacements are always hard.

I don't care about them getting a new singer it's not the first time a band has done so and it won't be the last I don't care that she's a cult member but I do care about her defending a predator I do care that she tried to intimidate a victim at the trial

I only liked a few songs from them when Chester was the lead and I don't really care about this new version of the band. The song they released was just meh. People will always find something to bitch about. Her defence of Danny Masterson was pretty gross but when you're a pawn of a cult that your born into it's gonna happen.
