The median height of the Scots is quite tall but the average is brought down by all those 4ft tall Glaswegians. I think.

I never got the hate for redheads. Red hair is so beautiful and the only hair colour with iron in the mix. Much more interesting than any of the others and so luminous.

Is it red or orange?? I always thought it was weird we call people with orange hair red heads.

Yeah! Glasgow is great considering food. But With Edinburgh you don't have to walk too much to check all the food diversity it can offer. And Edinburgh has sea side (Portobello). And I think that's a must! Not huge, not super great! But it's a beach! (Tim Boston)

Edinburgh does get many bonus points for the dramatic seaside and volcanic parks for sure!

A half hour on the train from Glasgow and you’re hitting the Firth of Clyde, a bit longer and you’re in Ayr but in both Clydeside areas you can find sandy beaches. Where I grew up there was Lunderston Bay, which you can either take a long walk to from Gourock train station (around an hour), get a bus directly to or drive to…and pop into the Cardwell Garden Centre across the road for a browse or to visit the cafe. Of course if you’re not bothered about the beach being sandy, there is most of the shore of the Firth of Clyde.

Short distances maybe for culinary diversity, but steep walks. No?

Thank you for another interesting video. I first heard the story about Dundee United when it was broadcast on the QI episode ‘United’ recently. It was after their disastrous 1972 summer tour. The episode is well worth a look - as is QI in general. The Dundee Courier also published a piece on it after the show.

I am quite behind on the QI episodes - but pretty on top of episodes of No Such Thing as a Fish! Easier to catch up with while on the go .)

This was a fun video Kat. You couldn’t hear me (obviously 😂) but I was chatting away with you 😅. I don’t mind the peel/poop building either but I also didn’t hate the parliament building (she whispers so that the people let her back in Edinburgh one day ha ha). I’m just about to read trainspotting, I watched the movie years back but not ready to watch it again just yet 😅

Edinburgh seem mediterainian to me in the north of Scotland, try Aberdeen for depressing and foul weather. I'm a Scot and red hair is prevalent in my family. My DNA says Celtic and 10% Finnish. Finnish seems to be common in the north of Scotland

Pre-Union a lot of Scotland’s trade was with Baltic countries, including Finland, and there were Scottish traders and merchants in those countries and v.v. Probably quite a few settled and intermarried, particularly on the east coast, and Aberdeen was a major port for that trade. Same effect as in eg Fife and borders where there were a lot of Flemish weavers and merchants. Have a look at that characteristic Fife architecture with the pan tile roof and stepped gables - familiar if you’ve ever been to Bruges, which was the trading capital of Flanders in the Middle Ages and probably not a coincidence.

The ginger thing comes from the vikings. This is where Russia gets it's name from, rus means red. It comes from the Kievan Rus who were vikings.

If you think Edinburgh is expensive, you should try Oslo, Rome or any town, in Norway or Italy...just saying.

Thanks, an interesting video. Very enjoyable. I’m an aged Scottish great grandmother with a strong Viking connection through one of my great grandfathers. We have redheads aplenty in my family but those with only one genetic marker, instead of the two for red hair, show the marker by the men having dark hair but can only grow ginger beards and moustaches, or women trying to lighten their hair to a whiter blonde hue end up with bright strawberry blonde to darker ginger tresses! We’ve done our DNA and only have predominantly Scottish and a smaller percentage of Scandinavian ancestry. Nothing else and no Asian whatsoever in answer to your question. It is a documented fact that, in Scotland, Edinburgh has the highest percentage of red haired folk so you should feel quite at home in my beloved “Auld Reekie”.! 😊 Scottish and Irish people have the highest percentages of red hair in the world and have done for ages so I couldn’t seriously consider that it is due to more recent arrivals, if that was what you meant. EDIT: We don’t take umbrage at the term ‘ginger’ as it is one of the best spices ever, as are redheads in the human race! 👍🏼😊
@lynnejamieson20639 ай бұрын
I used to work with a lassie who had a theory about why there are so many Scots redheads. As so many of us in Scotland are blonde when we are young children, she reckoned that due to the lack of sunlight, the blonde just faded to red. I don’t think that’s true but it is an uneducated guess 😊
