People are pretty hard on Maximus, but tend to excuse the behavior of Thaddeus or the Ghoul or in some cases even Lucy. Maximus finally becomes a squire and his knight threatens to send him to the gallows. He finally gets a chance to haze his bully (less so than they did him), then he learns of his bully's past and doesn't have the heart to keep doing it. He stands up for his bully when they fight the gulper (Knight Titus would have sent him in without armor). He hides his identity because he lives in a world where you can't trust anyone, then he trusts Thaddeus (a guy who beat him regularly) and that ends up being a mistake. People tried to rob him, they ripped him off at the shop.... He's from a world where you can't trust anyone, and every time he does they affirm that to him. Every time he tries to show us heart, someone confirms it's a thing that'll get him killed. We don't credit him for how he's trying to be, we blame him for reacting to the way things are. So he naturally is at arm's length with Lucy initially. Then when Lucy proves to be trustworthy, that's a big deal to Maximus because he really wants to be able to trust someone. Lucy and Maximus make complete sense because they balance each other out..

You're actually making great points here, I definitely saw Max in a different light after the finale. I still think it's too early in the narrative to believe in an honest true feeling between him and Lucy, but I could definitely see it happen in season 2 (especially with what the season 1 finale set up for the future!).

@@barbzthings I think things are generally rushed in a world like this where death comes early for most people. Him saving her life 3 times and attempting 4 is probably enough to have earned it especially for someone who was ready to marry a total stranger.

In the games, fusion cores seem to last forever in fixed equipment, but they run out fairly quickly when you run around in a suit of power armor, and you have to replace them all the time.

Lucy was going to marry a guy she has never seen or talked to before because she had no other choice. Max has saved her several times over the course of the show and she is physically attracted to him. What do you mean, "He has not earned it?" Its not a matter of earning anything. They like each other, and get along. Sometimes thats what matters most in the wasteland
@barbzthings3 ай бұрын
Hi! The 'earning' part was more from a plot point of view, not Max's personality! As I mentioned in another comment, I actually would like them as a couple - but only if they finish the arcs the writers set them on. Lucy has spent some time on the surface now, so I would hope her to be a bit more developed as a result than she was in the first episode, and Max now has some internal struggle top go through (as per the final episode). I am actually excited to see how their dynamic plays out in season two!

I know what you mean with Lucy and Maximus jumping all too quickly into romance. However, I think it fits with their characters. Very recently, Lucy was prepared and seemingly quite happy to marry someone she never met and before that the only person she had found to get together with was her most immediate male relative (apart from Norm and her dad). Maximus is also pretty much the only person who has been nice to her (whatever his motivations) since she got to the surface. Plus, in her first meeting, with all she has been taught, he probably seemed like a heroic US soldier from before the war. Similarly, Maximus' life has been very enclosed. Although he knows how to live in the wasteland, I'm not confident he has ever been out of the BOS compound in his adult life. Again, Lucy is practically one of the few people who has shown him any kindness or offered him an alternative to the Brotherhood, who he must know are likely to kill him given all his shenanigans. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I'm pretty sure Lucy is the first woman who he is properly interacted with. In the games the BOS has a lot of female members but his particular group seems overwhelmingly masculine. I think they often have quite rash personalities which have been warped by cultly devotion, so it probably shouldn't come as a surprise that they jump into this without much second thought.

I'll also point out that Maximus saved Lucy's life multiple times up to this episode. In Filly, he jumped in front of Lucy to block a bullet the Ghoul had shot at her. And he gave her the Radaway. And saved her from that couple on the bridge. And "rescued" her in Vault 4 (though it turned out he didn't need to). So it's not like he's done nothing to endear himself to Lucy. And Lucy also saved him, from those cockroaches. So they've saved each other. So I could see them becoming an "item", given the events.

Lucy was raised learning about Knights in power armor being the heroes of the Great American Republic. She is inclined to be romantically interested in Maximum for a whole boatload of reasons that have nothing to do with him.

Love the new set-up! Looks great! You probably get asked all the time... but I have been scratching my head trying to place your blend of accents... Help?!

Thank you! And I'm from Poland but have lived in England for a good few years now so it's probably that :)

His foot was more than broken. It was shattered and bleed8ng and probably infected. That is the kind of wound that would kill him, possibly before he could make it back to the brotherhood

In the game that power core would not run the armor for anywhere near as long as it does in the series. Most of the vaults power comes from the reactors they showed, the core is just a part of the chain albeit an important part. IMO it was either Steph or Betty that killed the raiders, the distraction they created was no longer needed. No, Thadeus could not go back to the brotherhood, they kill all ghouls and mutants on sight. In defence of the Lucy Max thing, IMO time passes in a weird way throughout the series. You really don't know how long they were together on the way to vault four for example. Or how long it took to get to the radio station. (also agree the romance was not needed) There are no cameras outside the vaults so 31 has no idea who is outside the door thats why Norm can just go in, also other reasons as you will see.

Thanks for letting me know! Also fair with the time and how long the season actually took... The point still stands and I'm very excited to see more of this world in season two/play the games! :)

Nah. Maximus may not be a saint.. but I can understand his desire to survive & defend himself. The original Knight Titus was most definitely going to 'sell him down the river', watch him get executed & continue on with his day. (Cuz thats who Knight Titus was... self-centered, cruel & arrogant) Same goes with Thaddeus... once Maximus revealed himself, Thaddeus made it quite clear he was going to speak against him (thus ensuring that Maximus gets executed by the Brotherhood) I think Maximus' biggest problem is.. he's a terrible speaker (& perhaps has a very low diplomacy skill). But I don't think he's evil or necessarily a bad person. Just doing what he gots to do to survive.
@barbzthings3 ай бұрын
I agree with you about his survival instinct and self preservation - I just really don't like that his only motivation to 'be good' seemed to be Lucy. Earlier this episode he was about to let a whole vault die just so he could have the core, but now he risks his life for a woman he's known for about two days? Having said that, I hope both Lucy and him go through some changes in the next season (I finally looked it up) and find their way back to each other, because I actually wouldn't hate them as a couple!
@stephenhumphreys91493 ай бұрын
@@barbzthings There is a point made that pretty much everyone Lucy has met on the surface (except Wilzig and maybe the idiot who was trying to turn sand into water) has been pretty much entirely self-centred and pretty nasty, so the fact Maximus did give her his radiation medicine when he could have just kept it for himself and let her die after she fell unconscious is a point in his favour. Even basic human decency seems in pretty short supply on the surface.
@marauderdz3 ай бұрын
I agree about Titus, but not about Thaddeus. From Thaddeus's point of view, it sounded like Maximus had just admitted to murdering Titus; he was terrified of him at that point. He wasn't threatening Maximus when he said the Brotherhood would find out, he was trying to talk him down from what sounded like an insane plan.

Maximus, much like Danaerys, was introduced to us while making us feel sympathy for him. But I feel that he, much like Danaerys, is villainous.
