Having an ugly exterior can also save you HUGE on property taxes, true. And FWIW, we don't need anymore housing for the rich. Let's house the unhoused. There is a world wide housing insufficiency because the rich are taking over, and buying up affordable housing to turn it into holiday rentals. More working people are unhoused now than even in the Great Depression. I am seriously insulted by all this excess when affordable housing is non existent. Local building codes require sq ft/m that are not affordable and keep people unhoused. This is disgusting.

You first. Go ahead. House a single homeless person. It’s a lot harder than you think. And stop blaming the rich, unless you meant to include yourself.

how about a 3 bedroom, with 2 separate master bedrooms, 2 story log cabin with fireplaces with a cookstove in one of them and no electricity, and a well with clean water.and 3 indoor outhouse style bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room, livingroom, and library for books

I don't remember where in England, but one of the small train stations closed their below ground restrooms, and a person bought them (they were side by side) and converted the space to their home. The sky lights were already present.

I'd love a home with a sea view... However... I'd rather live in a tent than some of those ridiculous houses perched off the side of a cliff or top of a column of stone! I want to sit on the beach looking at the sea, not be in a house hanging on by a thread, that turns into a submarine after a bad storm or tremor! 😳 Lots of these use fantastic architectural skill to design and build within the insane locations that are chosen for them, such as as those homes nestled within the shards of rock in that mountain, or cramming a skinny house into the tiniest slither of land etc. But for what reason other than an architect patting themselves on the back for successfully making the weird location work? I can understand one-off houses that are quirky in shape and design, or use an already existing "build" to transform into a home, such as the water tower or the air raid shelter. Those homes are one single dwelling, and designed specifically for the owner's own sense of fun and flamboyance. They may not suit each of us, but that's ok, we don't have to live in it. But when you're building multiple homes in city centres, because rising population demands more housing, that's a lot of people who have no choice but to accept some cooped-up awkward house, or face being homeless. Some of these reminded me of haphazardly stacked crates in battery farms, and we don't even want chickens to live such a cramped, claustrophobic life! 🐔🥚 Can you imagine the steps those people have to climb to get in or out of their home? Particularly those who live at the very top! Imagine dealing with a baby in a pushchair, bags of shopping, or having the removals team move in-or-out your furniture. Not to mention how close to neighbours you are, and having no outdoor space! Where do they park their cars? What if they need an ambulance? Their lives must be a living hell on a practical basis day to day. You're telling me the city didn't have a scrap of field they could spare, so that a tower block of modern flats could be built instead? Much easier to build, insulate, clad and evacuate in case of fire. Much more sturdy and soundproofed that those cage like homes wedged between mountain shards. And in a block of flats lifts can be installed, meaning everyone has access to a shared garden area at the bottom, within a minute or two of leaving their house. Paramedics can get to each door quickly and bring a gurney in case the patient cant walk and needs taking to hospital. Furniture can be delivered easily or moved to another home. Putting in a lift would cost more yes, but I doubt it would cost as much as the logistics needed to build those crammed houses in the first place. Getting all the building supplies up there, scaffolding, windows, wiring, piping, drainage, fresh water, and a team of builders, plumbers, electricians etc who were willing to work in such a precarious site, would cost a ton and cause a problematic headache with issues adapting each house plans to it's individual spot. Flats would be far quicker to build and much more straightforward. Less workers and less time needing payment. I love secret doors leading to hidden rooms. I really love them and would love to create a spot in my house to have one myself. However a lot of these weren't worth bothering with as they led to a former cupboard, narrow walkway, or an idle bit of space behind a wall. Some were so tiny and awkward it wasn't worth cutting off that space from the home, to then hide it as a big mystery behind a secret door! Very underwhelming a lot of them. Instead of an "Oooh" and a "Wow"..... they were more of an "Oooh" and a "Oh! Is that it?" 🙄
