"It's so nice of them to pay me." 😂😂
@CleanAirOutsideFamily8 ай бұрын
I can relate to that mindset. My dad wouldn’t pay me to work on the farm but would pay my brother, who is a year younger than me, for doing the same work driving a tractor and harvesting the crops because my brother was a boy and I was a girl. My dad was born in 1928 and didn’t believe that girls should get paid for working. Fast-forward when I get to college and I’m working in a pizza shop in the 90’s with the same kind of old-school mentality patriarchal misogynistic old man, Italian boss with mafia ties. I was simply just grateful to get paid even though they don’t pay me overtime when I work 60 hours a week. I got paid less than everybody there, and it is cash under the table. I would feel terrible getting paid each week and avoid cashing out or picking up my check from my other job as a landscaper because I felt like it was rude or aggressive for me to stop by the office and get my paycheck. And, everybody said I worked harder than all the other people there at the pizza shop, they were all on drugs and alcoholics, drinking and doing drugs at work and passing out, and I was keeping everything organized and going with all of the food orders, delivery drivers, phone orders, and all of the other stuff like detail cleaning at 2 o’clock in the morning to make sure there wasn’t food underneath the fryers. Oh, and the druggie cook would get chicken wings out of a bucket and put them in a fryer and wipe his hands on the cotton rag at the sub/sandwich and then make somebody a sandwich with raw chicken slime on his hands and no gloves on and then wipe down the substation countertop with the salmonella chicken juice soaked rag. He’d put his salmonella hands into the raw vegetables, like the lettuce and tomato. He also would not wash his hands after he went to the bathroom, and he hired sex workers when he got out of work at two or three in the morning, and they did drugs together. I talked to him about it several times, and told the boss. Who knows what happened when I wasn’t there to remind him over and over to stop making people sick. I ordered food from there one time on a day off and got sick off of the “cooked” chicken fingers, they were frozen raw and supposed to be cooked all the way through but I think they were undercooked and we can only assume they had raw chicken slime and salmonella all over them. The cook would tell me that they were pre-cooked chicken and did not need to be in the fryer for very long. I showed him on the box that it says they were raw meat and needed to be cooked for a certain amount of time at a certain temperature. Anyways, years of dealing with narcissists over a lifetime has resulted in me, finally learning how to say, ‘no.’ I was definitely a big-time people pleaser, and acted so much like the people in the skit for most of my life. I’m still like this to a certain next step, and even yesterday at the age of 46 during a zoom meeting with 15 people I was struggling with Being confident and not doing the pleasing thing to get my job done. It is so cringyfor me to do anything that comes across as mean, rude or stern. I’ve been a property manager/landlord for almost 20 years professionally and people say that I’m a very nice landlord, which turns into me not being tough enough or confident enough to evict people or get the rent out of them when I need to pay for the property maintenance, bills, taxes, Insurance and mortgage payments, and to pay the workers. I end up not being a very good manager, because I have a hard time telling people no or following through with something that could hurt their feelings like evicting them for destroying the home and nonpayment of rent. People pleasers should not be landlords or property managers, we are the reason why homes get lost to the bank during a foreclosure and back taxes and the mortgage payments do not get made on time. I’d rather be running a not for profit and giving money away to people that are in need.

I was called many times by my social worker "a people pleaser". Well...I've had a tough time in the social world... I have high-functioning austim...I lost a lot of friends, oppertunities, and chances. I'm having a lot of problems with some friends of mine...I want to tell them I feel left out...but I'm scared to death of something awful! Like rejecting me, and leaving me! It's hard for me to make friends...

I've been there, I still try to help out for nothing. But about friends, I just got bored with people, curious about myself, focused on the goal of learning something. I don't have any friends at all, but I have a family, I don't know, if I didn't have a family, I'd probably die.

The car accident thing happened to me once 😅. A car driving in a narrow lane hit me and it’s side mirror was smashed( I was completely fine) and when it stopped at a distance to check up on me, the first thing that I did was tell the man that I was sorry that I broke his mirror 😂. It was fine though, he was very nice and asked me if I needed medical help.

I would have done that too but self blame is dangerous, especially if he turned out to be a terrible person. He could have blamed you for the incident, said you agreed, and gotten money for it. Just my opinion. No worries if you disagree. I am probably wrong so either way I hope the best for you.
@pm50228 ай бұрын
@@AbcDef-so3tq yeah, I think my reply was based off the fact that he was an older gentleman taking his daughter to school/college(gauging from her book bag) and he had an apologetic demeanour. But, you’re right, growing up is learning to be brave and assertive when need be.

@@pm5022 Oh totally! Sounds like you correctly read it to be safe in that situation to apologize! 😊

This is actually good therapy. I used to be a people pleaser and the one that apologized for EVERYTHING even stuff I didn't do. Until I met someone just like me and it was like looking in a mirror. I dropped something and _she_ not only apologized, for it, she _rushed_ to pick it up. I felt like I was looking at myself and it was disturbing. It was the beginning of my long journey to learn how to stop being an enabler and people pleaser. Now, I'm an asshole and I love it. 😃
