Looking at the picture, I can see a few problems, design-wise: 1. Her cheekbones are too pronunciated, which makes her older than she actually is. 2. Her mouth is too wide and too close to the nose, which makes her smile feel unnatural. All in all, the face of Mary Jane feels like it was done with a character creator from some RPG (and done a very poor job at that) and not from modeling the face of a real-life young woman.

They definitely went into her design this time around with the intent of de-beautifying her. She had a very cute look in the first game, and this time around they intentionally widened her jaw, slimmed down her lips, made her nose straighter (less buttony), added a couple fairly severe facial wrinkles, and gave her a flatter hairstyle. She looks like she aged 10 years between Spider-Man 1 and 2. Stephanie Tyler Jones’ natural beauty still shines through, but it feels like Insomniac went out of their way to age her youthful and beautiful features. It was likely done for the same reason Aloy was given the “realistic” treatment in Horizon’s sequel, Abby was a walking man tank in TLOU2, and a multitude of female characters were downgraded aesthetically in Mortal Combat. American gaming industries being overrun by idealistic bitter jealous and spiteful developers. Insomniac low key behaves kinda sussy with their motion capture actors around Spider-Man. John Bubniak was shafted and fans were given the fakest explanation for his firing, and now they’re straight up changing Stephanie’s features to intentionally make her slightly less attractive towards male audiences.

Peter's face was done so apparently it's synced better or something with Yuri's voice and with MJ there's no real reason with it but to me the face changes aren't that bad especially Peter's which is definitely a big improvement from when they first did the face swap in Miles and the ps5 remaster of the first game
