Get an old subaru for under 3k(135k now over 155 put over 20k(still adding to it and i am not a highway driver had this car 4 years now) maybe a grand in repairs and drive through the unplowed new england roads like butter. I always like to have two cars around here and right now we have a 2011 honda crv as well with over 200k. i like it better(in the summer) but the subaru is more fun in the winter. I have never been to a so called real mechanic at 36. I do my own work a lot based on your videos and i too am cheap has helped me a lot. Also a lot of them leak oil externally when head gaskets fail at least the ej25d in my 2010 impreza i put in new rad and flushed coolant new thermo and my coolant level has been perfect no oil burning even after 5k and its not leaking bad i suspect some from the valve cover but this is not a car i will keep for ever i will just do a rinse and repeat but subaru is changing some things i dont like more plastic for instance.

I have a 2007 Impreza non turbo and I gotta say I love the thing. Timing belt goes everywhere yeah but it’s really easy to take apart. And you really don’t gotta pull the motor for a lot of these things, I dropped the heads out from the bottom when I did the hg job at 150k. Yea they’re two cylinders but that also means they’re tiny! Easy to work with tbh.

@frankanderson4176 speak for yourself. I have a 07 impreza 2.5i as well (non-turbo) and it had the head gasket failure. Me and the father in law changed just about everything out while in there. Subaru fixed the head gasket issue in these models by using the wrx head gasket that is like... riveted metal sheets instead of a cork board or w/e the original is. Learned a lot about my car, know it should all basically be new. Doing this yourself is one of the easiest ways to save money since we all have cars.

I'm afraid you might have the wrong end of the stick regarding turbo vs non-turbo head gaskets. The non-turbo Subaru uses a coated head gasket. The coating is what fails. The turbo Subaru uses a multilayer steel head gasket. They last a really long time UNLESS you go and hot rod the thing with a bigger turbo. etc. Oh, and if you are replacing head gaskets on a non-turbo, always upgrade to the MLS head gaskets from the turbo. Love your channel.

We have a 2011 Subaru Outback bought new, February 2011. Never missed a beat for 12 years then at 153,000 the wiring harness plug had a bad spot so it would start, then not start. I feel 12 years and 153,000 without any part failure was pretty good? Now at 13 years, 164,000 miles, we’re replacing rotors, CV shafts, tie rod ends, but they’re all wearable parts. Now the valve cover gasket has a minor leak, but we had a Camry with about the same mileage, it had a leaking valve cover gasket as well. We and millions of others, love our Subaru Scotty, lol

Been around Subarus for a little over ten years. None of the problems usually presented here I have personally witnessed. Have to wonder what the previous owner did or did not do for service. I find that when a brand is considerable knocked down….I go more towards that since someone is trying to hide something and generally it’s always better but don’t want that to interfere with less car brands, I won’t mention Toyota here.

I have a GC8 impreza, I've personally replaced head gaskets and the timing system (belt, idlers, hydraulic tensioner). Didn't know what we were doing, just figured it out from a workshop manual I downloaded from a subaru forum. We managed to do the head gaskets without even getting the engine out of the car...we loosened the engine mounts and put the motor on a tilt. Obviously, no normal person would bother with this much work, unless they're passionate about subarus. I learnt so much from the experience, and even had a professional mechanic contact me for advice on how to do the timing. That felt good.

The Subaru was destroyed in an accident a few days later, and the Subaru owner was paid SIX times as much as the price offered by the car dealer 😂😂😂
