Some albums are just plain unavailable on cd. In that case...you have to opt for vinyl. The earliest albums by Canada new wave/power pop band The Payolas have NEVER been reissued to cd. NEVER buy cd's copied by a third party. They are LP transfers...and NOT authorized by the original artist. Those are cd's you avoid at all costs.

As a teenager myself, i'm a spotify premium user who always stream music 24/7 in my room and a huge fan of paramore since riot!. My opinion i always like to buy CD's is because as a music-holic myself i really like to hold an obtain the physical album itself. Holding them in my hands and just appreciating the effort that the band make to produce such amazing tracks and its just beautiful to have stock up and display on my shelves. And i'm not sure if cd's would not be a thing in the future so having a cd of your fav album is just one of a kind.

I’m 17 years old and I have a little cd collection, not much, only about 24 CDs but I’d say a lot more than most kids my age. I only buy albums I know for a fact I enjoy bc my money is limited and every once in awhile I let people kind of make me feel stupid for collecting them. “You have Apple Music, why do you need CDs” “Vinyl are so much more aesthetic and trendy CDs will never come back”. The amount of times I’ve searched the music section in stores and see the cd selection being almost all old rock or country ( no shame just not my thing ) and then seeing all the vinyls be my favorite albums is a little disheartening lol but I’m still sticking with them. The price and maintenance of vinyl just isn’t worth it for me. But yeah I buy my favorite albums, for example I have Igor by Tyler The Creator on cd bc it’s my favorite album and I almost never stream it bc I don’t want to get tired of it, I save the random hits or artists that I only like a couple of songs for streaming

It's great to see that some of the younger people are buying CDs. CDs are much better quality and you own the music instead of renting it from a streaming service. Also, I suggest going to some thrift stores for CDs, you might find some different titles.

Streaming doesn't connect me with my music the way owning an artifact of it and choosing to play it does. I like looking at the art and reading lyrics. I like to display my taste when people come over. Streaming is background noise when I workout, like the fast food version of a real meal. Also, I like vinyl but I am tired of quality control issues plaguing the hobby and availability and super high prices compared to CD.

Two reasons I see why CDs are still in demand: 1 - If you are serious about music and have a truly good quality sound system you would never prefer the sound quality of streaming over CDs or LPs. People argue LPs are the best quality sounding music source but with a high end system CD's can really shine. 2. You get to pay streaming costs every month probably for the rest of your life. That adds up to cumulatively expensive. Frankly a collection of CD's over time will be much cheaper and at a reasonable pint you can stop paying monthly streaming costs. Like you I resell CDs and find Most genres sell well.

It is amazing how little the music industry makes on streaming. I would think at some point they will have to demand more money from streaming services. It does not surprise me that people still buy CDs. I never stopped buying CDs. I never started streaming music, nor would I. But I buy more LPs and even more singles because that’s what I grew up with, and the sound is genuine. I appreciate the work that went into these, from the songwriters to the musicians to the producers to the designers, and I want something to keep. It does surprise me that anyone would still buy DVDs. I have hundreds I have never played and won’t at this point. Local stores don’t seem to want them for reselling, and they seem too valuable to give to thrift stores. So maybe I should try selling those online. But again: Who would buy them, except for obscure and rare titles?

Based on the response to my video a lot of people are still buying CDs. I slowed down buying CDs but ever since I became a reseller nearly 8 years ago I have started collecting again. I have sold a lot of DVDs on eBay and in my local store, but DVDs are currently going through what CDs did after iTunes, mp3s, Napster and digital albums became popular. All of the video/movie streaming options have knocked DVDs out of favor. However, there are still rare titles and ones not on streaming services that people are buying. Thanks for the comment.

As a regular 90's and early 2000's hip hop collector, The majority of the time, I prefer "non-remastered" CD's over the remasters. I believe most music created in the 80's and 90's tend to sound best as the original. There are some exceptions!...like the 2000 remaster of Warren g.."g funk era" album is a clear upgrade from the 94' pressing. They remastered it very well by slightly boosting the sound stage so it's a tad louder than the original but very clear and dynamic still!...sounds wonderful as the original sounds great as well just has a considerably lower playing level and the bass is somewhat low. CD's rule!....the music needs to be mixed and mastered correctly though to bring the best out of the music!....we stay away from remasters for the most part👍👂....and CDs definetly sound better than streaming I agree

When cds came out in 1983, alot of titles weren't being pressed onto vinyl because cds became the default media for recorded music. I have lots of cds that will probably not be pressed on vinyl due to a lesser popularity genre like JAZZ. Some jazz titles are being repressed on vinyl due to acknowledged importance among jazz enthusiasts. Make hunting recorded music interesting 🤔

I look at how much profit I'll potentially make based off my listing price and my Cost Of Goods. For FBA CDs I try and stay under 150k but prefer to be under 100k. However, if I am going to list a CD Merchant Fulfilled then I will list much higher sales ranks.

Let's be honest: there have ALWAYS been different way to listen to music, and people have always had WAY different level of passion, towards music. More than 90% of people, to me, seem to have always been "casual listener", with the remaining 10% music passionate people with different level of passion. until 2000/2005, if you wanted to listen to music you MUST buy a phisical media... Well, the people very passionate of music, have always bought the best quality medium, that was LP and early adopted the newest technology that brought a quality improvement CD. Other media like cassettes did great because of their more than adeguate quality and great convenience and low price. These medias were preferred by casual listeners. But at some point (in the late '90s and '00s) the price of new CDs became similar to cassettes and the players also became cheaper than quality cassette players... therefore CD dominated the industry, because were bought both by people much into music, and also casual listeners. So, let's get to 2020s... lossy cheap streaming is something I would compare to cassettes... super convenient, cheap, adeguate quality for casual listeners (people that listen to music on the go, with earphones. The smartphone with spotify is a mode to consume music really equivalent of a walkman with a cassette, obviously with better quality and convenience). Therefore now the casual listeners switched to streaming! But people really into music still buy CDs. So I don't think that the CD medium is facing a crisis, it's just became what it is: the very high quality medium for people who like quality hi-fi listening. It's a niche, but a niche that is here to stay. High quality lossless streaming? They are an interesting options, but: you'll miss completely the phisical experience of the albums that many music passionate people like. What do you think about my thoughts?
@510Books
@510Books 9 ай бұрын
I agree with your perspective on casual versus passionate or more serious music consumers. Streaming is so simple and doesn't require keeping a large physical collection in order to listen to a lot of different music. Most people are happy being able to stream their favorite songs and groups without owning that music, but a smaller percentage care about the quality and owning their music. Thanks for the detailed response and sorry it took so long to respond.

Why switch formats? Cd provides jobs, your job. What does streaming do? CD sounds better than streaming. Not as much available on streaming platforms. Streaming only works when you have an internet connection. A burned CD lasts longer and is more compatible with different devices than a flash drive. Nobody backs up anything to a flash drive, CD is a more reliable back up media. CD has a culture, streaming never will.
