Whenever i read out loud, i am so focused on pronunciation that my brain does not register a single word, its just trying to sound like an audio book narrator.

As someone who narrates Lovecraft, I can confirm this.

As a guy who reads out everything, from novels to academic books, loud, I can approve this is completely relatable ✅😂

There’s also the fact that it slows your reading way down. Most people can read way faster than they can talk.

I read to myself sometimes. I find it slows me down so I can process things better. It also helps with proofreading things I've written.

I read out loud in order to get the characters voices locked down for me, and every time I’m embarrassed and pray my wife and kids don’t walk in on me and make fun of me

There are many people in the world who apparently don't have an inner monologue, they literally cannot read/speak words in their head, so they have to kinda just absorb what was written and or read out loud, pretty crazy.

I tried reading aloud, couldn't immerse myself at all. A good way to practice speech though; especially if you have social anxiety like I used to have 😊

Reading out loud to oneself is so much fun! I can do voices and accents without making a fool of myself 😂

At this point I just feel the experience like I'm there, living it. More I read, more details get added. The reality of the events become more vivid.

Reading out loud should be practiced in Academic related books, not just in schools but also in college. As there is a need to Set things to memory. But Novels or any other stuff, even if it's a social media post, should be read in the mind. As it's fast, convenient and doesn't stay for long term. So it's a quick go through.

I have ADHD. Reading out loud helps me enjoy it for longer periods of time and helps my concentration since my brain is hyperactive and loud.

Originally reading aloud was the only way people read, eventually some people started reading silently and people thought *they* were weird 😅

I don’t read out loud because I have stupid vocal cords that wear out easily but I do listen to audiobooks while listening at times and sometimes I find that my reading speed is way faster than the narrator but I learn to read at a slower pace because it helps me enjoy the story more. Also I find it interesting that words are pronounce differently too 😂.

When I was a kid, my neighbour, the girl next door, was also my classmate (and my crush, but this is unrelated), and she had this habit when studying. She was actually very loud, and it was so weird to hear out of the blue my own textbook read by somebody else!

Nah, that guy isn’t crazy, I completely agree, but his narration is terrible. Im perfectly capable of reading in my head, but narrating to myself makes it so much more enjoyable for me. For three reasons. First, I agree that it’s more immersive. Second, when I’m reading dialogue I love trying doing different voices for all the characters and switching between them in a conversation. Third, even if it’s not dialogue, every sentence has a different rhythm and cadence, and I feel like finding that rhythm is kinda like an art, the art of narrating and that’s what makes it so much fun. I’m basically always reading out loud unless there’s people around me who don’t want me to, or if I’m too tired to do it. And yeah, sometimes I lose track of what’s actually happening and what i just read, because I got too caught up in perfecting how it sounds and I have to reread in in my head, but it’s worth it. Maybe I am crazy and maybe this comment is way too long, but I don’t care.
