when I was getting tested for ADHD and autism they had me take an IQ test. When I got my results back, the person doing my testing said “there’s something fun to bring up with friends” and respectfully I’d rather die than go into a room of people and announce my IQ
@hazukichanx40810 ай бұрын
I have a theory that people with actual high IQ understand (or at least have the ability to quickly learn) how incredibly lame it is to start a conversation with "So, in case you were wondering, I'm most likely much smarter than you." Supposedly mine's fairly high, but I'm sure there are people with a significantly higher score. Wouldn't really care to be either the smug prick announcing it, nor the person being talked down to. Intellect is a fine quality, but it's not the only one that matters.
@Wolfie545459 ай бұрын
@@hazukichanx408 People with a high IQ understand that IQ isn’t truly a one number summary. It’s a measure of one’s potential to easily understand subjects. Thus, people who brag about their IQ have no fucking idea how it works.

Okay but I got my IQ tested professionally (to get an adhd diagnosis) and when I see people talking about IQ I always laugh because it's apparent it's a lie. It's way more complicated than a Google quiz, the actual test is based in many factors and quotes summed up together. (Also the psychologist said that people that think they're smarter that average are actually way lower on the scale) 💀

IQ tests have mostly been debunked as eugenics nonsense, and doesn't test intelligence accurately at all (it more tests your ability to know common things taught to people with a higher education). It was originally invented to test if a French teacher's, like, 2nd grade class was learning their content properly. It has no basis in real science. And if you think about it, it makes total sense: how are you meant to quantify someone's intelligence with a singular test?

There's a tragic dilemma in that some people are far, far too stupid... albeit not necessarily for genetic reasons... and then other people are highly intelligent, yet lack even basic human decency. Someone who can't teach a child to care about other living beings, can't really be considered an ideal parent... even if their raw intelligence is a desirable trait. I suppose the best solution is to find a partner with a good balance of both. Not too cold, not too stupid.

As someone who sat a proper IQ test a couple of months ago, something I learned is that most people wjo sit them tend to be children who have parents who think they're gifted. They get their kids IQ tested to try and show off that they have a gifted child. The tests themselves aren't exactly something that defines intelligence and are things that some people find easy naturally and others can train themselves with. They're nothing all that special really. Although doing it gave me a certificate I can be proud of because I did terrible at my A Levels and dropped out of university, so my certificates for college and uni aren't all that great. If I feel like I'm an idiot, I can now look at the certificate from that IQ test and think about how I'm not a complete idiot, just somewhere in the middle.

Online tests almost always give falsely inflated results - I can routinely get scores 20, 30, or more... points above what I scored at age 20. I should be getting lower numbers than I got in 1984, because it usually goes down gradually after age 24 or so....

IQ tests don't test intelligence, just your problem-solving skills, so not very reliable.
@multifandomperson87032 жыл бұрын
It does. Your IQ does not mean a lot in the end. It's a possibility of what your brain is capable of and an indication of where your strengths are. If you're intelligent but don't work/don't learn to work properly, someone with a lower IQ but better work ethic can and will be better at school or in workplaces. Many "gifted children" will fall off in higher education because they never learned how to study properly.
