For the Sewol ferry, the reason why they stood still was because of how the culture is over there. In Korea, you almost always have to obey what is told you when you are a child. It’s almost toxic in a way. This is why they all stood in their seats when they were told to. They put their trust into the adults who they must listen to. If this was America, it would have been preventable because most people don’t give a shit but in Korea it’s really different. Also, a lot of family was on the site of the ship sinking when most of the kids would have still been alive. The rescue teams didn’t do anything. Like anything. They sat there and pretended to save them which was proven later on. Once people realized the government was faking rescue missions, volunteers rescuers came and tried to get to the boat and save the kids, and they were turned away and even jailed. Also, the rescue divers sat near the boat as well and watched the kids sinking away and while the family was on land screaming at them to do something, the rescuers had the audacity to say “ We said we’ll start working at 1:00” knowing damn well that something like a ship sinking isn’t something you wait out. Some of the volunteer divers that helped after getting turned away and jailed had died while doing rescue efforts. A lot of the kids bodies are still missing. Not only that, I know I keep on going, when they took the boat out of the water, the parents couldn’t even see it so they can mourn and was instead barricaded by police officers instead (Also reporters that reported that the government rescuers didn’t save anyone on the ship, they got fired from their jobs and was also being risked jailed.) The president was later removed from office and many people in the streets of Korea who were protesting for her removal cried and cried because it was a small win for them. Yellow ribbons are used to remember this accident, and this accident also helped change how people in Korea see life and the younger-older, less powerful- more powerful way they go about life there. The K-pop group BTS also based their song spring day off of this song. Hope this gives some more info on this event as it kind of changed Korea as a whole. And if anyone watched K dramas, the zombie one called All of Us Are Dead used the Sewol Ferry incident as inspiration for the show to remind people of the toxic culture, classism, and bullying problem in Korea.

Thing about the Sewol Ferry is a lot more messed up than you'd think. The coast guard was there and did nothing even when they learned there were still passengers inside. Park even refused help from other countries out of pride. Rotten Mango has a really good video on the whole thing and I recommend it.

So you point out how that guy got onto the tarmac so easily. He went through a emergency exit which can't be looked. It's there in case of a emergency inside the airport (terrorist attacks, etc). There should've been security there though. RIP to him.
