I had a guy at a church social go on a really long lecture about how sugar will destroy your body (because we were serving cheesecake) and he made the analogy of how "if you tried to run your car on sugar, it would ruin the engine" and it took every ounce of my restraint and good manners to not say "if you ran your body on gasoline you'd be dead. @Travybear1989
@Travybear1989 2 жыл бұрын
@@Anastasia11101 Exactly, that's why I don't add any as it's in everything. The body is not made to handle 3000+mg's of sodium. I know this because I used to put salt on a lot of foods and used a solid 3-4 packets on my take-out rice prior to developing HBP and I didn't even eat more than anyone I know personally. Sure, genetics play a roll (my great-grandfather, great-grandmother and grandfather each died of heart attacks by the age of 60 and didn't smoke/drink much, if at all. Also, I cut soda pop and adding sugar to foods out of my diet and lost about 20 pounds over 3 months with no change in routine just by cutting the sugar.

I don't understand how vegans like my brother can do it honestly. I have to have scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast, burger and fries for lunch and steak and potatoes for supper that my wife makes for me (unless the weather is nice then I'll grill it) and there really is nothing better than meat on the planet. I could live without cheese easily as it wrecks my stomach but meat is protein man. Sure, I'm 6ft tall and almost 400 pounds but I'd rather be happy and enjoy life than worry about stuff because in the end we only get one life. The thing that pisses me the most off about vegans is that they are full of themselves and like to brag even if they don't mean too. My brother for instance is one of those vegans who lifts weights, runs marathons, and eats avocado's almost every meal with the perfect wife and kids, one of those types you know? About 4 months ago during Christmas time my wife and I hosted dinner and made an awesome stuffed turkey and I did the honey ham with a side of potatoes with bacon, cheese, and butter, and greens/fresh bread and desserts. My wife even prepared salmon for them that we smoked so they could eat and a side of potatoes with only the butter and cheese and they said they couldn't eat meat or cheese... Then they pulled out this tofu turkey stuff and their own potatoes, bread (the kind with seeds and crap), and desert and eat that in front of us! They had perfectly good fish and potatoes and the bread didn't have meat in it either because it's bread obviously. Sorry I just hate vegans they are disrespectful.

@@Travybear1989 So you’re saying that, while knowing that your brother and his family is vegan, you hosted a dinner FOR THEM and purpusefully prepared food you knew they would not eat? @@Sofia-js4xp He just said that they are vegans so I assumed vegetarians since a lady I work with is a vegetarian or whatever and eats fish. I don't personally know her but yeah I guess I should have asked or looked it up more. Yeah, the way you put it I kind of feel bad now... I think I'll give him and his family a call and ask for his input on what they can eat next holidays because deep down I felt kind of bad seeing them have to eat their backup food. I'll admit I am not very knowledgeable about veganism and you have a point. I should have seen things from his family's perspective instead of my own.

I nearly died of starvation visiting my brother for a week because his whole family was on some diet that didn't allow meat, cheese, fat, sugar, gluten, carbs, processed foods, or real food. The only thing I could identify was fruit, but everything else was being fermented in a jar, or was a seed, or ground paste and the water had to be specially delivered because god forbid you drink tap water. It irritated me because for my nephews birthday, we couldn't just order a pizza and have some junk food...no, it had to be ordered from some place that charged like $40 for a medium pizza with some cauliflower crust and organic ingredients. Ahhhh!

@Travybear1989 2 жыл бұрын
No, sugar is the enemy. Go to any walmart (or 2nd class beach such as Vero Beach in Florida) and you'll see beached whales drinking mountain dew everywhere. Hell, after I cut soda pop and reduced my sugar intake by 75% at the minimum I shed about 20 pounds over half a year with no change in activity level. I even cut salt back by a similar amount and noticed my blood pressure go down drastically and started feeling less bloated. It's crazy how two of the most common food additives fucks up the human body so much after excessive saturation. I mean a single can of mountain dew has 77 grams of sugar which is about three times what the human body really needs! That's over sixty pounds of sugar per year basically and sugar is high in calories. I used to eat whatever the hell I wanted until the age of 30 where my bad dietary choices caught up to me. Since then I quit fast food as well and go for raw, whole food options whenever possible. Try eating something overly salty or sugary after going without it for a month, the food is almost inedible.

@@DeathnoteBBlol not even close! You think fruits and veggies were just growing wildly over the their country? And if so, why the need to create the agriculture business to make them available year round?
@maenad1231
@maenad1231 2 жыл бұрын
@@kristinmoore4624 **TL;DR** Meat _(in the sense of “edible tissue from tetrapods”)_ really wasn’t a staple food for a very long time in early human history. It was more so a supplementary food than anything else. Early mankind primarily relied on: all kinds of edible vegetation, honey, fish & immature eggs. Meat was cherished but consuming meat in large quantities or consuming meat from a large game animal was nearly luxury-status because obtaining it was often more trouble than it was worth. **FULL COMMENT:** Fruits, veggies, roots, tree nuts, small-to-medium sized fish, bird eggs & honey could all be obtained safely & relatively simply which made them better staple food choices than meat. VEGETATION: We DID mainly subsist on *A LOT of vegetation.* Some fruits/veg were significantly better than others because not all of them were highly nutritious. _(The ones we have today have been selectively bred to bigger, more flavorful & have more nutrients than the ones that were accessible to most humans during the Paleolithic era)_ Before farming, many *fruits/veggies/roots/treenuts* would only grow seasonally but it didn’t mean early mankind didn’t have access to any vegetation at certain times. Gatherers would just have to pick from whatever they could get at that time of the year where they were located. They obviously couldn’t be picky like us and get their favorites flown in from an area of the world where they _are_ in season. There actually _wasn’t_ many inhabited locations that failed to provide some kinds of edible vegetation year round. Even during cold spells of the ice age early humans _(homosapiens)_ were great at exploiting the environment to acquire plant-based foods. The opposite can be said for Neanderthals (homoneanderthalensis) they only ate a sizable quantity of plant-based foods during periods when the whether was more lush. They were not as good as we were at obtaining plant-based foods during cold spells so they mainly just ate meat during these times. HONEY: Archaeologists have found *wild honey* was likely one of our earliest staple foods _(Humans instinctively liked the sweetness, benefited from the minerals/vitamins/antioxidants & got quick energy from the fast digesting carbs/glucose.)_ Paleo drawings show humans started fires near cave openings that were home to bee hives; they’d go in, take the honey and emerge unharmed. The smoke that filled the cave would make the bee swarm leave or make them very docile/disoriented if they stayed. Humans would eat the honey as-is or utilize it other ways. One other way it was used was for fruit-preservation since untreated fruits can go bad in like a week. Though cavemen did not understand the antimicrobial properties of honey, they somehow learned in kept things from rotting; they coated fruits like berries with honey & allowed it to harden; thus preserving them. They’d often stick a piece of wood in the semi-solid honey and consume by licking it _(So cavemen invented lollipops)_ EGGS We obviously didn’t have any consistent access to dairy or viable plant protein sources like legumes, cereal grains and pseudocereals until after the Neolithic revolution started; so *young bird eggs* have always been a vital protein/nutrition source _(even prior to evolving into homosapiens we relied on eggs)._ Eggs were simple to forage from nests & there was very low risk of having to square up to a ferocious beast in the process. Initially our ancestors ate them raw but later learned how to cook them, thus extracting more nutrients from them. FISH Many researchers think our earliest homosapien ancestors lived near African lakeshores and they had a diet mainly comprised of gathered vegetation & *a large majority of their animal protein from fish.* It makes sense; if your only protection is a club, spear, sling and few sharp stones: would you rather catch a few Perch/Catfish or take your chances with something that weighs more than you, runs faster than you and naturally has strong fangs/claws/tusks/antlers/hooves/muscles built into its body? OTHER •Bugs: If tree nuts, fish & eggs were inaccessible or in short supply prehistoric humans would resort to *entomophagy* _(eating edible insects, arachnids & myriapods)_ to get enough protein. Not a hearty meal but turning over the right rock would offer dozens of big squirming bugs; it would definitely satiate someone starving for protein & B12. This was lower risk than hunting because most bugs aren’t venomous/poisonous & the ones that are usually have bright colors or strange markings that would instinctually make early-mankind hesitant to eat them. •Meat: It was cherished for its fat, protein, caloric-density, nutrients & minerals- but prehistoric mankind knew that unless it was *necessary,* they shouldn’t be seek out wild animals _(especially ones that are big & strong, aggressive or fight back in herds/packs)_ to hunt because they’re just putting themselves at a high risk for getting hurt or killed. Hunting _(especially big game animals with a lot of meat)_ required tons of time & energy; weapons needed to be made, hunters needed to strengthen up, they needed to learn to stalk prey to learn when their guard would be most down, they needed to expend energy chasing&fighting the animal until it died _(often sustaining injuries in the process)_ and then haul it’s ass back to their tribe/settlement etc. And sometimes all that time&energy was completely WASTED because plenty of hunts would be unsuccessful. Sometimes small but fast+agile prey is able to escape unscathed even after exhausting all the hunters trying to catch it. Sometimes a big + strong animal being hunted would kill/critically injure/overpower someone and all the hunters need to retreat to survive. So during our early history we didn’t hunt or consume meat in the quantity/frequency that people imagine. Don’t get me wrong; even before becoming efficient hunters humans *did* eat meat. Humans have always been opportunistic omnivores and before we became more proficient at hunting we mainly ate meat by scavenging. If we came across the carcass left over from another predator’s successful hunt we had no qualms eating left over scraps of meat. If a small animal wasn’t too fast, wasn’t known to be deadly _(ex; poisonous),_ and didn’t appear to be too much a threat we’d definitely do our best to catch, kill and eat them too. But obviously left over meat scraps + a few small animals wouldn’t provide a hearty meal for every member of a group/tribe so meat was was often eaten in very small quantities by each person or reserved for the most important people in the group. Even after we became more proficient hunters in the UpperPaleolithic/Epipaleolithic periods _(by getting more intelligent and thus; getting better at tracking/ambushing, using flint & animal teeth to make deadlier weapons, teaming up with wolves etc)_ humans still knew that after having a meaty meal it was best to ration the rest and save it for later since they had no way of knowing the next time they’d run into an animal that’s hearty enough to provide a lot of meat but also slow/weak/injured/dumb enough to be worth the risk of attacking & battling it. This is why instead of feasting like kings for days after a successful hunt Paleolithic mankind learned to preserve meat; they used the sun to dry/dehydrate meat that was open to the elements to prevent it from rotting. Another method was a “canning” technique; they’d carry around the bones of animals like deer and break the top off and eat small portions of the marrow at a time then close up the top with furs/skins; if they ran out of other food sources they’d break the top of the bone again and repeat the process. This way instead of putting themselves at risk of death/injury/exhaustion by hunting more than necessary they could make the meat of one animal last weeks by eating only small quantities on an “as-needed” basis rather than making it a daily staple.

When I eat out with friends I make sure to invite them to the largest chinese buffet in town then scarf down a solid 10 plates in front of them followed by ice cream and cake. I don't touch the rice or veggies just all straight up meat meat meat and sauce. I like to get 3 side bowls worth of sweet and sour sauce and two plates of sweet and sour chicken as well as a plate of chicken on a stick to start personally. Then I usually follow that up with an entire plate (12+) crab rangoons, then I hit up the orange chicken/pork and fish, then usually some lo mien with more chicken, eventually steak and broccoli then whatever else before dessert. Most of the people freak out but I'm almost 400 pounds so I smoke them pretty bad lol. Sure, have high blood pressure but there are pills for that that I take so hell yeah ;)

I would love to see studies on the correlation between extreme diets for "health" and eating disorders. Myself and several people I know who have been vegan, paleo, etc spiralled into eating disorders because you're constantly having to worry about what to eat next and what's in what you're eating, combing through ingredients lists and asking chefs... It's not healthy to be so extreme. And my health really suffered for it too.
@hayleybartek8643
@hayleybartek8643 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on what’s considered “extreme dieting” and what the motivation is. If you’re a diabetic who wants to live for another 5 years, you do have to obsess over what you eat.
@celticlass8573
@celticlass8573 2 жыл бұрын
That would actually be a very interesting video, provided someone did it who understood the science. I'm sure there are diets that say they're healthy, but actually have a lot in common with how people think about food, who have eating disorders. I'd definitely watch that.
@MJ-he1hf
@MJ-he1hf 2 жыл бұрын
@@hayleybartek8643 Yes. Diabetes, celiac disease, etc of course warrant particular diets as a matter of life and death. I more meant people who choose an extreme diet just because it's popular or someone on Instagram said it's healthier. I think the worst is when people combine diets and it's gets insanely restrictive - like combining vegan and gluten free for example.

I've been doing intermittent fasting and eating a Keto diet for a few months. It's working great. All other ways of eating are wrong and bad for your health. Unless I start eating carbs again because I learn something new. Then that will become the correct diet and all others will be wrong. Or if I become vegan, then that will become the correct diet, and all others will not only be wrong and unhealthy, but inhumane.

I went vegan for like one meal, my vegan brother took us out to a vegan restaurant and it was easily 10/10 but I felt hungry like 2 hours later so I went out to an all you can eat chinese buffet and probably killed a solid 8-10 plates then I felt full until later when I ordered a large meat loverspizza that I dipped in some ranch after I got home lol. Then again I have thyroid issues that I take meds for that cause weight gain as well so I guess I just gave up as I'm already 400 pounds at 25 and we only live once. My brother does the vegan thing and is a bodybuilder but I could never have that type of motivation.
