I always use an old cookie tin for my sewing boxes. For daughters and granddaughters I make them up and give them as gifts. Can't believe how much they are loved.

I've always thought all 'dumps' should have a 'take it or leave it' section for things that are still 'whole' but unwanted by current owner. I lot of stuff could be saved from going into landfills and happily rehomed.

We call them Op Shops in Australia (I guess "opportunity"). They're all run by charitiies to raise money - Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul, Red Cross etc. My favourite go-to, especially when I'm after books.
