This is a much requested video on peperomia hope care as well as propagation. I show you all my baby plants, my current water propagation, and the parent plant. I also discuss light requirements, watering, fertilizing, even styling.

I love your videos! I find that following your care tips (with a little tweaking since I live on Vancouver island in BC) have helped me the most with my houseplants! I have a woodstove going all day long in my living room as it's now winter tho and the comparison to watering is more similar now with the amount of heat and humidity I got going on with the humidifyers going. Thanks so much for your sincere and quirky content I love it!

Thanks for explaining why the different internet spacing. I was wondering about the spacing on my Fiddle Leaf Fig. I just repotted my parallel peperomia (P. puteolata) little growths & cuttings into your Aroid mix; they looked very glum in the perlite, cactus soil mix they've been in for a month. Alive but Not Happy. I love the way this bark/twig/perlite mix looks on the pot surface; I added some small, pale natural stones (quartz mix) to camouflage the perlite cluster look in a random way. So delighted I found your channel. 💖💕

And also the great thing about peperomias is that they grow in the winter time as well. Really cool to see as most other plants just sit there waiting for spring to come. I always get extra peperomias in winter ☺️

I love watching your channel. I especially love it because I also keep my plants outside. In other words I don't have to figure out how I'm going to take an inside plant and make it an outside plant. I have this plant and didn't know that I should treat it more like a succulent. ( I have learned so much from you)Found a good size stem laying outside a grocery store. I did leaf cuttings in dirt. They all survived. YAY !!! I love all your little written messages at the bottom of the screen. I too have problems remembering things. I usually blame it on my stroke but I believe like me you have a thousand things going through your mind. Keep up the great work. 🥀🍃🥀

My friend has been out of the country for two months now (and is going to stay there for a while). I went to pick up an aloe and peperomia from her place yesterday. As I repotted them for safety reasons (who wants potential pests jumping on your other plants?) I noticed the peperomia roots were mercilessly rotting because her mom had overwatered them, with only a tiny amount of roots left. I cut off most of the stems in sections in hopes of making a few new plants and am trying to save what's left of the mother plant. Thank you very much for your advice on how to handle this cute plant! May it thrive again soon.

The leaves of my Peperomia Hope having been dropping periodically and it's a very tiny plant so I am worried! Where I first placed it, it was getting direct morning sun and some of the new leaves were starting to scorch so I panicked and placed it under one of my Monsteras where it was getting low, dappled light, but since then it's been dropping leaves. So it's back to indirect sunlight and hoping for the best in propagating the leaf that fell off today. I placed it directly in soil because I'm too forgetful when it comes to water propagations.
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 3 жыл бұрын
Good luck. I think they can handle a lot of light levels but is happiest with bright indirect light. Do not overwater them. I would treat them like a succulent.
@Lizzi2020

I just got two of these recently! The leaves on my peperomia hope are starting to curl downward but the leaves on the very bottom still seem firm. I don’t know if I should water or not. I have another small one that I have watered already and I don’t think it drained well because the bottom leaves rotted a few days later. I noticed there was a cotton strip at the bottom of the pot that might have been preventing it from draining so I removed it and the rotted stem. So far the rest of it seems to be ok so I’m hoping it will be fine, but I’m now worried about over watering the other larger one. I usually stick to bottom watering because I’ve been told it’s easier to not over water, is that ok for these plants?
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 2 жыл бұрын
Bottom watering saturates the soil completely - causing deep watering so the opposite is true.. it causes the soil to retain more soil. Try to back away with watering, they are actually quite drought resistant. But dont change suddenly… I would remedy it over time so the plant is not stressed

Do they root any better if you cut off 2 nodes, remove the bottom leaves and then put that part under the soil/in the water?
@onlyplants

In my experience, no. They put out roos from the cut point, and node at the points around each nodes. Hoyas and aroids will root better/faster with that method.

Hello :) I was wondering if you knew, when a leaf falls off of a peperomia hope, will that spot grow a new leaf where the leaf fell off or will that piece of the vine never have a leaf again? Thanks!
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 2 жыл бұрын
That piece of the vine will never grow leaf again, but each of that node (where the leaf fell off) is a potential for new vine to appear from. But in order to do this you need to release if of its apical dominance, this means severing the top most growth beyond that node.

Thanks for another great video. I noticed some of my p. hope leaves are kind of rough and somewhat dull and not smooth like they should be and I’m not sure why. It’s in terracotta pot, living in a nw facing window and I watered it when soil is about 80% dry. Is it underwatered?

Thats new to me.. I would think that its underwatered, or perhaps it may have lost many roots from root rot or from drying out too much, and the current roots are not enough to support the plant size? But my advice is to always take cuttings, the new plants you start in your environment will be so resilient

Incredibly informative video!! I actually just went to check on my plants and one of the strands of my peperomia hope came right out of the pot in my hand.. the root it had, had rotted. It was about 3 feet long in total and the rooted part was in the middle with two 1.5 feet vines on either side. I quickly cut them into sections like yours, dipped the bottom ends in rooting hormone (careful about which ends were the bottom and which were the tops) and placed them into damp soil. My question, I have a propagation dome with a heat mat, and a grow light; would the humidity be too much for this plant while it roots in soil?? Any suggestions?? Thank you!!

In my experience humidity does not affect this plant that much. In fact peperomias are known to be winter growers, growing faster in cooler days. The most important thing is to give the cuttings excellent light. 😀

Do you need to cut below a node and remove leaves at that node to propagate? Or will it grow roots from any part of the stem?

You can leave the leaf on. But keep in mind the cutting shouldn’t have too many leaves, as they might fight for nutrients and water, killing the cutting in the process.
