Wright's reclamation of a Jewish framework (Israel's story) of the cross as the place where the dethroning of the powers and the purification of sins took place is critical for our motivation to participate in God's restorative mission.

William L Craig often criticizes Wright for caricaturing the evangelical position of a hateful god from whom Jesus needs to rescue us. But if you listen to RC Sproul, MacArthur and David Platt, they all teach this very view that God hates the sinner which is why Christ had to die. Their view is that God IS Wrath and HAS love, while Wright’s view is that God IS LOVE and has wrath.
