I use tea made from grass cuttings for nitrogen. Banana skins for pottasium and kitchen waste for compost, I put the compost in shallow trenches and cover with soil in the late autumn. I don't buy fertilizer, just to save money . I put plastic pipe tubes into the ground beside my plants to water the roots and use less water that way. Works for me !

Sounds like you may want to repot if the soil they are in doesn’t drain well. Or, if the pots don’t have holes, it’s best to have at least one to allow excess water to drain after watering. If it’s just a matter of one time overwatering, repotting may not be necessary, just let the soil dry out and water less

I guess I need to provide more nitrogen to the plant.. It may be wise to hold off feeding if your plants are stunted from very high temperatures. The extra nutrients won't really help the plants if they aren't actively growing/producing. Otherwise, if your plants are getting bigger every day and show signs of nutrient depletion, feeding can help

if your plant is flowering/fruiting and gets yellow leaves, is it still a good idea to idea to increase Nitrogen? I always thought you needed to lower Nitrogen at that stage and increase potassium??
@PepperGeek3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Yellowing leaves doesn't always indicate a nitrogen deficiency though. It could just be that the leaves are aging and dying off, which happens naturally. Also, the plants still do require some nitrogen, just less of it to avoid overly-leafy plants. I wouldn't go nuts with the nitrogen during fruiting, but make sure the plants have some.

They are shedding leaves and the stem is turning brown. The leaves are shedding from bottom to up and I don't know what is the issue. Leaves are not yellow or curled and neither do I over water them. I live in Germany and there is not enough sun for many weeks in winter but I think if sunlight was the issue then they wouldn't have been fine in yogurt boxes and they survived indoors when outside temperatures were very low during those times. Please tell me how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Did you switch the soil medium? Sometimes if it is not well-drained or you compact it too tight, the water can become trapped and drown the roots. On the flip side, when it dries out, it is hard to re-saturate. Not sure that this is the cause, but could be a culprit.

When I came back the plant had shrivelled up so I removed it put in in the bathroom it’s cooler in there and watered it. Within a few hours it had recovered the leaves full of life again only then did I notice that some of the leaves were burnt turned white. I remove one of them just to see what would happen and left the other on. My question is do I prune off the burnt leaves or not. I first planted the seed for this plant in mid March, it was growing well in the small container I made from a cut in half water bottle but now that I have move at to a larger container as it got bigger ( I could see the roots against the other container) it feels like it’s taking forever to put out new leaves in two weeks it’s barely done anything.

How do you deal with pepper plants with a serious powdery mildew infection (about 90% leaves infected)? It can be dealt with by chemicals, but I don't want to use those; so, does trimming all the infected leaves and spraying it with a baking soda solution helps? Or should you just choose seeds that resist fungi from the beginning? Professional pepper seed vendors are rare in my region, not sure if they'd label the product as such, at least I've never seen one.

How often should pepper plants be watered?
@PepperGeek3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the heat and sun exposure - hot days will lead to much faster water usage by the plants. It also depends on your soil's ability to retain water. Good way to know is to lift potted plants and get used to the weight of a dried out plant/freshly watered plant. You can also feel the soil 2-3" below the surface for moisture.

But why is my pepper plant starting leaves out extremely yellow like neon yellow/green and then it grows out of it and they darken up later on???
@PepperGeek2 жыл бұрын
Very young tiny leaves will often grow in a lighter shade of green before growing into maturity. Totally normal. This is especially noticeable for dark foliage varieties. All the leaves on this plant eventually turned dark purple: peppergeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Black-Pearl-Plant-young.jpg

There are countries that have banned the use of products containing azadirachtin due to possible toxicity. EPA says risk is low when used as directed

My pepper plants have fungus Nats how should I deal with this??
@PepperGeek2 жыл бұрын
Yellow sticky traps can help with the actual flies, but the larvae they lay in the soil have to be dealt with too if you want to eradicate the problem. There are 'mosquito bits' that will kill them effectively if you want to take that route. Also, water less often to avoid standing water and excessively moist soil conditions. They like to lay eggs in moist soil.

Thank God I found you. I LOVE my pepper plants. I assumed that my hot pepper plants would be easy to grow in Texas. They are... IF you know what you're doing. And I did not. Lol
