In this video, we tour our entire pepper garden! We have over 50 pepper varieties, some planted in the ground, and others in pots.
Join our Patreon to grow peppers with us!
►► / peppergeek
We (very) recently moved, and have been busy getting situated, so this is not our long-term setup. However, we wanted to show all that we have planted this year and document the progress we plan to make in the future.
All of the pepper varieties are notated in the video, but if you have any questions about what you see in the video, comment below!
Stay tuned for another garden update in the late summer when peppers are ripening :D

That bug on the plant you showed was a Tick. It was sitting there with legs outstretched waiting to latch onto any warm bloodied creature. I Lived in Canada (Ontario) from 81-2015. I got bit by a tick in 2014. It gave me Lyme disease and co-infection bacteria. One bite from a tick changed my life forever. Lost my health,wealth,career and suffer every day.

Very nice. I only grew 9 varieties, 6 being super hots, 2 being regular hots and spicy bell pepper I got fromhome depot already at least a month into development for the fun of it, 44 plants total, but due to a budget limit this year I only grew my favorite superhots for the most part that I lie most to mae hots sauces for myself and friends. Next year I am definitely going to get some of these really cool varieties including some of the ones you featured in this video, and many many more superhots than what I grew from seed this season. Cant wait :-)

I took pollen from my fresno and crossed it with some kind of highly productive thai pepper. This is the season I get to see what it did. The flowers grow out sideways and then the stem twists and they either point up or hang. It looks odd. I can't wait to see the pods. The foliage looks slightly different than both parents too. Another thing is the people that think the lady bugs and such help are fooling themselves there is no way on gods earth a 1000 of them could eat all the aphids I have. And the soap and the peppermint oil and the neem oil. everyone on youtube just repeats stuff they have seen on videos. I have tried all that stuff with very little good. Heck and the videos of people saying spray them off with water. common sense tells me that is not going to work! How did they get on the plant in the first place? by uber! dont think they just going to climb right back up????? Heck I cant even keep them off with poison 7 liquid and such. No I am not a big organic guy.

Congrats on the new place. It will be nice to have all of that extra space to garden. After looking at your peppers so far, I feel like I started way late on my reapers. My super hots aren't even close to the size you have (all in 5-7 gal pots). My seeds germinated the first week of April and I'm in zone 4 (Minneapolis area). Do you think I'll make it? I do have a 3 season porch with decent sunlight for backup when it starts to get cold late Sept, Oct but yeah.
@PepperGeek
@PepperGeek 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Hmm..it is kind of tough in a cooler climate like zone 4. I might try to start earlier for superhots like the reaper, and size up the container while they are still indoors to keep the plants growing larger. With the 3 season porch, you should be able to eek out a harvest. Good luck!

I'm curious why the nitrogen % is higher than the potassium % and also can any of the 3 numbers be a higher percentage, for example 8-16-16? My Reapers, ghost etc are in 3 gallon pots and started flowering about 10 days ago and don't wanna give them something too strong!?! Lol Thank you and Cheers from Canada!😁🌶

Congratulations on your new home and garden! Hope it is as rewarding for you was it has been for me. A TomatoGeek channel would be very valuable if created by someone with your level of excellence... You're giving me a run for the money with how many cultivars you are doing each year. I tend more toward the middle of the Scoville scale, not seeing the point of anything hotter than a Ghost at present, and am more outdoor-oriented, but now that you have your own yard that may converge. There are a lot of very promising Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultivars I'm trying out at present. I got into C. Baccatum last year but you've overtaken me on that front. A research question: in my experience, if a pepper you grew from a purchased seen turns out different from its packet-mates, it is because a variant seed got mixed in by accident, rather than due to cross-pollination in my own garden. As far as I know it is biologically unlikely for cross-pollination to cause same-season variance though quite a few people talk about it. In one case a Ghost pepper seed I grew turned out to be a Tomato! (and a pretty good one). Quite a different story when you're saving seeds, I've seen two (rather nice) hybrids form that way so far.

Haha, well we have a jalafuego, which is basically just a jalapeno that is more spicy...does that count?

Looks great! Is the soil tilled then added mulch? How thick should the layer be and how often should it be applied?

This bed had a lot of weeds, so I did have to do some digging to get them out. Then, I raked some compost into the first 2-3 inches and it was ready for planting. Mulch as thick as you can, I went for about 2" deep of straw and it worked pretty well

I am still new to learning about peppers, but how do you prevent cross pollination of so many varieties in one area like that?

I'm wondering the use of all these peppers, this is way too much for consumption 😛 verry nice channel, verry nice garden and plants

How do yall use/eat your peppers? Predominantly in sauces? Or in stir fry-like dishes? I would love some more recipes from yall, on the website or otherwise.

We will do our best to share more recipes as we go into the fall/winter. We do sauces, pickling, salsa, pico de gallo, roasting, flakes, dry rubs, etc.

The sugar rush peppers are awesome. Problem is I cannot get them to ripen. Two years straight. They'll produce fruit and the peppers never go ripe. So by time October comes I'm throwing fruit away.

Well don't throw them out, they're edible unripe, and still really tasty. Great pickled or just fresh!

I tried out the straw you talked about. Now I have to pull out the grass growing in my pepper pots every day :(

Yeah, that shouldn't happen. It is really meant to be used as a lawn weed suppressant, so it should be 100% seed-free.

Subscribed, I need help, your plants looks beautiful and I want to get mine to grow like that. Where to start? Also, I would like to learn more about the different varieties etc, and suggested reading?

Where are you located? If you're in a Northern Hemisphere temperate zone, it is too late for this year. In the Southern Hemisphere, early spring is when you should plant seeds

This year I grew the mocha swirl, which I "believe" is a fish pepper? It starts green and whitish, and goes a cholatey brown when ripe. Very sweet, nice for salads. Any idea if this is a fish pepper?
@PepperGeek

Interesting, never heard of that variety, but looks like it has similar traits. Definitely different, as fish peppers are spicy and smaller

Holy 🤬. You are a pepper geek. I didn’t realize there are so many kinds. I definitely want to grow ghost or Carolina Reaper next year. I’m on my second year of jalapeño. 😅
