@@saigonlawman68 I have something a little more meaningful to say than "Thank you for your service." I came of age between wars, and after the draft was ended. I never had to go to war, and for that I'm grateful. I've read a lot about the war in Vietnam, and seen two of the longer documentaries, and I'm especially grateful I didn't "see action" in *that* war. I was 11 in the summer of 1969.

In 1969 I was in the Army and sometimes we would get a three day pass mostly for giving blood and I would fly home from Fort Bliss to the bay area in California to see my sweetheart , she would always ask in a funny way like the song "will you be staying after Sunday or go to the Army on Monday". This is a great song that will always last. PS..married to my sweetheart 50 years this June 4th.

I would definitely imagine that. However, it does not matter what decade you were born in. Each decade will have a good and bad sound, but as long as you focus on your own personal taste in music, nothing can go wrong. Sunshine pop is my number one subgenre of pop, and I am currently trying to form a band of musicians who wish to revive this groovy sound. Will you reply if you choose?

This video playing floods me with memories of a time long gone on the Central Coast of California. A great year for music, yes, and better yet the Top 40 included a little bit of everything: Pop, Rock n Roll (including a little "acid" rock), vocal music (e.g., Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones, Bobby Vinton), a little bit of Country (Roy Clark, Glen Campbell), Motown, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, instrumental music (Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet), bubble-gum, gospel, and there was even a reggae song in the Top 40 that year ("Israelites" by Desmond Dekker). A complete musical education without turning the dial.

Wow, heard it today on a "true oldies station" . That was 1969? Because I was eight years old at that time and I distinctly remembered that song. Probably had not listened to it since 1969. Soft bubble gummish harmony, a bit fluffy too but a good song. Also the clothes and hair at the time were awful. I guess 1969 was a good year for music and being alive. That is, not so much if you were a male of draft age, possibly being sent to Nam to get your head blown off.

1965, the Beach sound, Motown, and the British invasion coming together followed shortly by the protest and peace movement songs, from "San Francisco" to "Lay Down Candles in the Rain" to Simon and Garfunkel, to the Glen Campbell Jimmy Webb songs to the incredible Joni Mitchell., what an amazing creative environment and what a joy to hear what was next on the radio charts. I agree with you 100%.
@classiclistener0150

@mwngw and Kevin Osborne - That's true and good, but, it did have one flaw...there was 'so much' great music and 'so much' talent and competition that even the songs that charted low were great. There was so much of it and not enough radio stations to continually give it all airplay; no MTV; no VH-1; etc. For instance, this song in the US and Canada charted #21 and #7, respectively. This is great given the competition. With more radio stations, who knows. I have this album (vinyl), and, that's the only time I ever heard it until KZbin came along!? If the garbage of today can get passed-off as hits because of all the media, imagine how well great songs like this would have done given the same publicity!? It's a bummer, but, I grew up in a time where every song on an album was good or great...not just the one or 2 hits that the radio played all day.

I think it would take too much planning & coordination. And probably TOO MUCH TALENT Steven. Many songs today feel slopped together, without any instruments, backboned by autotune, with "cleaned" vocals. Awesome.

Songs today are manufactured to have a certain commercial sound. There is no art in them at all. They are cranked out quickly to provide material for live shows, which account for about 80% of the revenues in the music business today. That is why a number of concert tickets cost thousands of dollars apiece.@@Mister8224

Those empire waistlines came in about 1964. My mom, my aunt, and the neighbor lady wore them to a communion party they hosted because they were now 45 and getting a gut. And they liked that the empire waistline hid their belly. By 1969 those were quite out if I recall,.

I just found this record at an antique shop in Indiana last week. It was in amazing shape, so I put it on the turntable, digitized it, cleaned it up a bit with Audacity and added it to my collection. The whole LP is great. Cass Elliot saw them perform somewhere in the Northeast and got them a record contract at Decca. They only made one LP but it was a great one.

Hi, I don't know how young you are - I am 58. Remember when CDs came in, to be no more records. Yet there wasn't the auto tune etc on those recordings on vinyl. Very much enjoy my records - like music from 1920s until 1990s gets much less so. You and the record were ment to be, looking to be appreciated. Enjoy your LP. Best wishes, from raining Cornwall near Eden Project UK 🇬🇧

This was my group back in the day. They were called The New York Times when I brought them to NYC and changed their name to The Peppermint Rainbow. Leka wrote and produced this song. Rainbow trivia. The Fifth Dimension worked with the Rainbow and just fell in love with the group. Marylin McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. actually showed up at Decca offices and made radio station calls to break the record. Mad props to Marylin & Billy - I'm not sure it would have been the hit it was without them.
