I fixed the water ingress issue many times, most are caused by water getting in under the rubber seal under the air dam in the cowl area, years of dirt will breach the seal but more often is caused by the metal strip under the windsheild getting a rust spot directly over the cabin air intake, which creates a drip that goes right into the motor area. The fix is to one clean and seal the rubber on the bottom of the air dam down with a quality sealant and to build a cover over top of the air intake(an old windsheild washer jug bottom cut in 1/2 works great), you just have to make sure it is tall enough and make side vents so it still gets good air flow. If its not the windsheild leaking or the sunroof drains this will fix it 100% Its a design flaw which they picked up on because after 2009 they had factory built covers over the air intake

Also be aware that the floor carpet tears surprisingly easily if you pull it like a 'scissor', like tearing a paper page.

In my case it was water coming in the top of the windshield due to poor sealing. Known issue on the P3 volvos. Had to get glass repair shop to reseal entire front windshield. It’s not always the sunroof drains (but is often the case or both).

Sometimes the rear bench can get stuck and won't lift from its brackets no matter how much you pull (watch your back!). If this happens, look underneath at front with a flash light: you will notice a black plastic piece - one on each side. Use a pry bar to push upwards from under this plastic piece from the side (facing the door): this should pop the piece out along with the bench. The piece may break so you may need to replace it. Alternatively, you can try to tear the carpet by lifting the seat foam a little, and pulling gently on the carpet near where the seat is secured and towards the door - pull gently so you don't tear it in the wrong direction - it does tear quite easily actually once it's started

thank you.. my floor in my 04 V70 is rusting.. my Dad drove the car from 64k (km) 402k and then I have gotten it to 460k. trying very hard to go another 100k. I already started just cutting carpet because it was so bad and I needed to keep driving. Your water ingress videos are very helpful, and I am sealing as much as I can in quarantine.

The best material to prevent rust from spreading is the resin used in composite applications - the resin part only. Once hardened it seals perfectly the area from humidity and further rust spreading - of course the area must be perfectly dry before application. It's messy and requires strong gloves but it absolutely works. I've tried other things like shown in videos and forums, but that resin is the only one that really stops the humidity from reaching again a rusted area - this is also true for body work.

Hello Peppermint (SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH)Thank you for all videos. At the start of video you have on the floor the cover of air filter cabin and there is a rubber gasket all arround the cover. But the blower doesn't have it,( my Volvo S60 2001) doesn't have either. I have problems with water as well and I noticed the water leaking in 2 areas 1.where the blower is mounted (there maybe is a missing gasket) 2.Where the power blower connectors. I removed all car carpets,the blower. I put silicone all arround (where I think is a missing gasket and i insulated the the power socket of blower) and let the car outside,. Two days it was heavy raining and no water at the passenger floor noticed,.Next 2 days is still heavily raining will coming. Outside I just cleaned the plastic where the air comes from outside but I think its better to put silicone there as well.I will let you know after a few days if the leaking is stopped or not.

Hi Peppermint. I had water under the carpet again and did again as you showed, but some rainfalls later, still water would penetrate in. So I learned (from my Volvo garage) there is one additional way for water to penetrate inside the vehicle, if you V70 has a roof that opens up. There are four drain holes inside the roof recess and if theses are clogged then the water goes ways I do not know, but it ends up underneath the carpet.

Hi Franz. Your mechanic is very much spot on. The tricky part is that even on cars that never use the sunroof, the seal is not 100% perfect and lets rain water pass by. In large cities, rain is dirty with dust, this dust leaks past the sunroof seal, into the drain tubes, and after a while it blocks them. I had a serious leak for several years. Repairman said it was coming from the front windscreen. I had the screen replaced yesterday. The repair guy said there was zero bonding material on the top of the screen and he could push it out with his hand. Worse than that he said the front screen pillar was completely rusted away and the whole thing will fail soon. The back of the car is flooded with the carpet, mat and under carpet foam soaked through. Surely this is a recall issue. The windscreen replacement guy also said this is common in Volvos. Mine is a 2010 V50 which I bought new in Sweden.

I know the first generation XC60 had a similar severe problem with the factory windshield using a coating that would not adhere properly, many vehicles were affected and even the replacement genuine windshield would cause again the same issue.

Thank you so much for this video! My heater core was leaking in my 99 s70 & I didn't know it. My carpet is wet & so is the foam underneath. I was able to remove the carpet, but I can't figure out how to remove the foam. Does it have to be cut out? Can it be dried out instead of being replaced? It's pretty wet. Will a wet vac work? I'd rather clean it & dry it, rather than replace it...if possible. If it has to be replaced, where would I get this foam? I'm in the US. Once again, thank you so much.

Rear drains tubes underneath the hood liner kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5PQkImNpcyanLs . The rear tubes end inside the trunk with a rubber piece located just over the metal wheel well area, behind the side covers, on each side. In front, the tubes end with the rubber piece seen just near my finger at 0:45 (just lift a corner of the carpet). There is a similar piece on driver's side. Pull these rubber pieces and check them for any debris. Please note that removing the front A pillar plastic cover trim piece to expose the front tubes is NOT recommended: this trim piece is secured with special shearing clips designed to break when the curtain airbags are deployed: if removed, the trim piece may not be secured properly back in place and fly free and become a hazard/cause wounds in the case of a car crash.

My girlfriend's car has this problem. Unfortunately, we only recently started seeing each other, and she has been surviving this issue for a long time. It has gone so far as to destroying her passenger seat. This tells me that without getting in her car, that the carpets are completely ruined as well. I don't remember well. For left hand driving cars, I think there is one A/C drain on the left side of the center console (near the gas pedal), then two hoses near the right front door - one from the sunroof (if equipped) and one from the cabin blower housing. There is also a drain from the sunroof near the left front door, then two more drains for sunroof the by the rear wheel wheels (passing inside the trunk, behind the side covers). There can be several points for under the carpet water on the right front side, for example the cover under the blower must have all screws in place or it will let water leak (I show these screws on the blower video). The cover under the cabin air filter must also be tight (it has a small seal)

Also .... try this ..... common fault on Volvo S40 ... Mine said "Boot Lid Open" ...when shut .... go to the wiring loom ... on left when boot open .... peel back the rubber and re-join the broken wire ... sorted ............ Note .. make sure the rubber grommet is secured as water will get in and you will have a wet patch behind passenger seat.

Does it got mildew on it ? May try spraying only underneath with some household cleaner but I don't think it will help much because it cannot penetrate inside the thick foam. As for drying, I had my carpêt completely out of the car sitting for about 2 weeks before it did dry completely, it takes very long. Maybe it's easier not to remove it and to soak in instead with some soapy water soak as you say - use a soap that's doesn't smell too much, then coat the foam with some anti mold product to keep the mold from spreading.

Hi, it always depends how much water is in there. Under the carpet and under front seats the water can 'travel' both ways through 2-3 holes in the floor cross member (the transverse bar on which the two front seats bolts are secured). If there's a lot of water under the carpet, it will travel both ways, in my opinion. It is relatively easy to check under the front carpet, can lift it a little from the corner near the passenger front door hinges, and can slide a hand underneath. Careful as these carpets rip quite easily. If removing the carpets, I recommend using some expandable foam to fill the holes in the cross member.

Also I had for couple of days 'Anti skid service required 'and the Volvo dealer ( he is not official volvo dealer but in his service he fix only Volvo) said to me there is a problem with water under passenger seat(where the antiskid sensor is located) The message popped for 2-3 days and it went off. I checked with VIDA and there was a problem with : Antispin function,doesn't work PA ABS- 00A1 Tils speed sensors 1&2 signal outside its permitted range. ABS-00B2 Tilt speed sensor 2 Faulty signal. ABS-00C0 Stability function Wheel alignment or steering wheel angle incorrect Checking the switch, climate control module CCM. Any advise for this problem?

The yaw sensor may get corrosion on it on the S60 with DSTC but it's more common with the XC90 where the sensor is more exposed to corrosion. You can undo the two floor bolts and unscrew a little the two rear ones, and incline the whole seat backwards and look at he sensor. But first make sure the steering wheel is centered correctly when driving on the highway (wheel geometry), this can confuse the stability system. Also, look at the front reluctor rings for small cracks and make sure the axle bolts in the middle of the wheel are tight - about 35Nm www.volvooftorontoparts.ca/p/Volvo__S60/Suspension-Yaw-Sensor/42796583/30667565.html?partner=googlebase

Just now I was driving and at certain point I break and the asphalt wasn't very good the message "Antiskid service required " was show immediately. A doubt may be something wrong with ABS sensors?

Did you use any kind of adhesive with the foam underneath the wipers or did you just place foam in there? The foam was completely dissolved in mine and I need to replace it

If you place new foam, it has to be glued (or squeezed tight) in there because if it breaks free, it drops inside the fan blower and will cause it to be unbalanced and vibrate. I did add a little piece of foam like a pipe insulation foam which is water tight. So you may try cut a new foam and perhaps it's better to make it larger and to force it in there to stay tight. Don't forget to clear the small holes around the two drain tubes I also show, otherwise water gets too high under the windshield cowl

@@OscarRamirez-xe6eu Sometimes one or even both two plastic 'brackets' won't release the metal rods from the seat cushion. I don't know why it happens, but there's no point pulling on it, it will not work no matter how much you pull (and it's bad for your back). Instead, pull to lift a corner of the cushion and see the black plastic piece on the floor side, insert a long pry bar under this piece and pry up - the piece may or may not break, but it should detach from the floor along with the cushion. So there's a chance you will have to replace that piece (from Volvo or junkyard). You can also try carefully to tear the carpet on the side under the seat to free it from the brackets, go gently because it tears off quite easily
