Here are some side-by-side differences between our Brazilian Peppertree (Schinus terebinthifolia) and Peruvian Peppertree (Schinus molle) grown as ornamentals in Coto de Caza. #peppertree #peppercorns #plantsofcotodecaza

Thank you for the video! I believe I have a Brazilian pepper tree in my yard. It’s not as fruitful as the one in the video, but it is very full and the perfect canopy for our hammock.

Best ones are the females with few fruits. Good canopy, less mess and a few nice birds

It is also dioecious, so male and female different trees. Berries only form on the females.

Amazing video. Down here in Florida, we have a Brazilian in our backyard. Grows like crazy. Anyways, got into woodworking and have been using the wood. A bit of research was saying Brazilian Pepperwood is highly sought after and used in high end furniture. That said, I believe it’s from the California or Peruvian Peppertree. I would imagine it’s cousin, also has good wood but not sure. Also, it said California Bay Laurel which may be different, I’ll have to look into it. Anyways, super easy to follow, informative, and concise video. Can’t applaud you enough. Thank you for helping me clarify what I was trying to understand!

Both trees look great, leaning more towards the Brazilian pepper tree 👍😎

We have tons of both species in my community. Be careful where you live, some states (like Florida and Texas) ban any new Brazilian species to be planted. Also, I have some Brazilian along my fenceline outside my property, and I get lots of new trees creeping underground and growing in my yard. The Peruvian is less invasive. Just, a heads up. Also, they are messy, so don't put by your pool. Good Luck

@@battlefoxx Yes I watch ur channel cause I use to live in CA but I'm trying to do homestead in AZ, would u consider these trees drought tolerant?, would be awesome if I could propagate some from trees already established.

For Arizona, I would plant the Peruvian Peppertree (Schinus molle). It is more drought tolerant and would fit in better with types of plants like the tamarisk or palo verdes, yuccas and aloes. It is also easier to take care of with less pruning, and does not spread out its runners as much underground. If you want peppers for your homestead-prepping, you need to make sure you ask the nursery for a female. It should (but confirm) provide peppers even if the flowers are not fertilized. You just get sterile fruit.

they can probably naturally hybridise where they are growing next to each others

Makes sense they could possibly hybridize or cross-breed if they are from the same genus, but I never really thought of it.
