Peppy Castro (Blues Magoos) Interview (6/9/24)

Peppy Castro is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and playwright. Peppy is probably best known as an original member of the garage/psych rock band Blues Magoos with the 1966 hit, “(We Ain’t Got) Nothin’ Yet”. From the period 1964 to 1971 the band issued 4 albums and a whole slew of singles. Afterwards Mr. Castro appeared in the Broadway production of Hair and joined the Alessi Brothers (see my interview from May of 2023) in the band Barnaby Bye in the early 70’s. Then came stints in the bands Wiggy Bits, King of Hearts and Balance during the mid 70’s to early 80’s. Peppy wrote jingles for a while and his songs have been covered by many artists. The new millennium brought reunion shows, reformations and a couple of new albums for the Blues Magoos. In 2013 Peppy would release his first solo album, Just Beginning. And my guest was hired on as associate producer of the Off-Broadway production of “The Gong Show Live”, which I imagine was a lot of fun to do!
