A perfect blend of melancholia and joy. Stepping in dance with the totality of life. Embracing both night and day, moving along with moon and sun. Forward with song, ahead with life, onward in harmony with the quickening pace of life until the notes give way to silence.

This is the music I grew up on. My Romanian father played this music every Sunday afternoon after church. I can't hear a violin playing that it doesn't take me back to those lazy Sunday afternoons of the 60's. I think my brother still has all the LP's.

Maybe. Im only not sure if them are very similar with guitar and violin but they are russion and have the soul: -Dmitri Shostakovich - Waltz No. 2 -Dmitri Shostakovich -"Lyric Waltz" from "Dances of the Dolls -Tchaikovsky - the sick doll -Tchaikovsky "The Cradle Song" Op16 No1 -Tchaikovsky -The Seasons, Op. 37a, TH 135 - 3. March: Song Of The Lark -Tschaikowsky: Nocturne d-Moll (cello nocturne) Im playing piano as a main instrument so these are mainly piano pieces.

thanks for posting. but it is wrong to classify as "Russian Gypsy" music! This song has an author: Ivan Vassiliev is the composer and Apollon Grigoriev -text! Outstanding Romani musician of XIX century, the conductor of the famous Romani choir, singer, guitarist and composer. Born: near 1810's Died: near 1870's Apollon Aleksandrovich Grigoryev[1] (Russian: Аполло́н Алекса́ндрович Григо́рьев; IPA: [ɐpɐˈlon ɐlʲɪˈksandrəvʲɪtɕ ɡrʲɪˈɡorʲjɪf] ( listen)); (20 July 1822 - 7 October 1864) was a Russian poet, literary and theatrical critic, translator, memoirist and author of popular songs and novels. The style is what called" Old Russian Romance".

THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE. Most of the other comments seem to want to start a discussion as to the origins of this genre of music; many seem to take offense that l am labeling our family music as being in the gypsy genre when I am simply drawing the parallels l saw between music played at my family parties and what l have heard since l discovered it quite some time ago on you tube and it brought back so many happy youthful memories. Feel free to contact me anytime. I live in Arizona, USA. I’m not very well traveled except for Canada and Mexico but I would like to hear about Romania and your way of life . If you don’t want to, that’s ok too. I will understand. Have a wonderful day !!!!

And to sergantDon, for the very precious information: ""Two Guitars" was created around 1857 in St. Petersburg. First , Russian poet Appolon Grigoriev wrote a poem called "Цыганская венгерка" or "Gypsy Hungariana" and asked his friend Ivan Vasiliev, who happen(ed) to be a director of Gypsy chorus and dance ensemble to compose music for his song."

Да нет здесь ничего цыганского. Это русский романс 19 века и у него есть авторы Григорьев и Васильев, явно не цыгане. Я житель Кавказа и то это знаю.

One of my favorite albums in the late 70's and early 80's was a record of Russian folklore, including this one, the best version being a classical concert with conductors, Wahlberg and Abramov.

It's not 'Russian-Gypsy' music. It is just Russian. The background to the music is as follows: Ivan Vasiliev was a Russian choir director of a famous 19th-century Gypsy ensemble in Russia. After hearing the ensemble play, a Russian poet called Apollon Grigoriev was inspired to write a poem, which he named "Two Guitars" ("Две гитары"). Vasiliev was then inspired to compose the melody to the poem.
