I hope it helps! - at the end I said 2/8 is 24% its a mistake because I wanted to show the method in which 1/8 is 12% and 2/8 is it multiplied by 2 , but in decimals its 0.125 and for percentages I ignored the 5 that's why I multiplied 12 with 2 to get 24 percent.

I personally take advantage of the division by 10. For example, 124% of 50, I'd do 50 (=100%) + 24% of 50, which is (((10% of 50) • 2) + ((1% of 50) • 4)) which equals 10+2 = 12; and lastly, 50 (100%) + 12 (24%) = 62. Your trick is quite useful tho, so I'll use your trick and my method depending on the situation.

U r not calculating 1/4 portion of something .... Instead u r calculating 2/8 portion of something... So if u reduce 2/8 into 1/4 then u will get the answer for 1/4 and not 2/8. Don't reduce, calculate directly
