Haxy Go Haxy Go This is just floating point math. You probably learned it using scientific notation in school. Always multiply the base numbers and use the powers of ten to determine where to move the decimal point. 27% = 27×10^-2 120 = 12×10^1 27×12 = 324 -2+1=-1 So move the decimal left by one: 32.4

What's also sad is that this "new" new math makes no sense in teaching math calculations in such a complicated way. Or worse, the children are expected to only do the math the "new" way and they don't even know how to do long hand/short hand division, for example, AND dodge learning it as if it makes your brain hurt to think that hard. But, that's also the deliberate dumbing down of children.

The main percentages you’ll see are 25%, 50% and 75%. 50% is easy since you just divide the number in half. Then you just divide that answer in half and you get your quarter (25% and 75%) and then do a little addition or subtraction. Another cool trick is if the digits making up a number are added together and their sum equals a number that’s divisible by 3, then your original number is also divisible by 3. Example: 354 is divisible by 3 because 3+5+4=12 and 12 is divisible by 3. Another one is the 9 times table. From 9x1 up to 9x10, the numbers are inverted. So the pattern starts with 9x1 through 9x5: 09, 18, 27, 36, 45 and then at this point it inverts and the numbers are backwards for 9x6 through 9x10: 54, 63, 72, 81, 90. I love little tricks like that :)

Or maybe it y'all fault for not researching about maths in internet. I just searched a little bit of it and already got this in my recommendation and thank god I'm still in school.

Thank you! I thought I could do percentage problems then I realized that I was only doing percentage problems with high numbers ( to estimate capital gains on the srock market, years ago ). Doing percentage problems with small numbers is totally different.

My appreciation for these videos are immeasurable, it’s a huge shame though that mental math is rarely incorporated into the typical school mathematics curriculum. Hopefully that will change in the future. Regardless though, keep up the helpful content :)

It should be obvious even without the video- 60% of a number = 0.60 times the number. Of course, I say "should be obvious" since it definitely won't be for everyone- I haven't used percentages in some time so I forgot about it too :P

I'm 73 now. When I was in school, teachers would be shouting at kids because they couldn't grasp simple tasks. They didn't realise, the poor kids were probably dyslexic. The kids were petrified, which would make them even worse.

Thankfully there is change on the horizon. There are now schools without classes, year levels and even subjects. Children are empowered to teach themselves. We teach the children how to learn, not what to learn.

@Steven Lee Steven, right decision when we take into account today's school scenario. If teachers fall short, the children's attitude most times falls shorter. I'm a retired teacher and was singularly fortunate with my pupils. Today it's hard . Hey, Steve, why not take up online teaching ? Needs some effort and innovative ideas/hacks initially, but the end product is profitable and no hassels compared to teaching a class with rowdies. GOD Bless and All d Best.

Yea or just in case you don't have a calculator a simpler way to do it just simply multiply both numbers together and then write your answer like you would dollar amounts for example like the last problem of this video was 65% of 82 you would multiply both numbers together 65x82=5330 then you would just write it out as 53.30 or for example the other problem 60% of 130 you would multiply 60x130=7800 which would be 78.00 or 78 hope this makes sense as well

At a glance I got the method omg if I had known this 65 years ago i don't know where I would have been..thank you for sharing your knowledge stay blessed ❤️
@mrmeowtv62486 жыл бұрын
For that last one I just looked at 65% and thought of it as 50% + 10% + 5%. 50% of 82 is just half, so 41. 10% of 82 is 8.2, and 5% of 82 is just half of the 10%, or 4.1, then just add 41 + 8.2 + 4.1 = 49.2+4.1 = 53.3. It requires a bit more intense memorizing though holding 3 numbers in your head and adding them one by one.

How about this, i have just bought some new shirt, the price is $80 and it's discount by 50%, so, I just have to pay 40 dollars right? and the next day i saw the same shirt with the same price but this time the discount is 70%, So, if I use the method above, I have to spend more money than before, which is 56 dollars, am i right? or there are difference between "Percentages & Discounts"
@imnahraf95206 жыл бұрын
no u just pay 80$ - (80$ × 70%)= 24
@mrmeowtv62486 жыл бұрын
It's important to clarify if 80$ is the discounted price or the original price. If it's the original, 50% of 80$ is just 40$. Another important thing to clarify is: Is the discount 70% off, or is the new price 70% of the original? 70% off means you're subtracting the 70% from the original price, so 80 -80x.7 like mentioned by I'm nahraf. You can also think of it as 30% of the original price since if you take away 70% of the 100% price of 80$, you're left with 30% of 80, or 24$. If you say the new price is 70% of the original price, this means the new price is 0.7 x 80 = 56$. Discount and percentage: Discount means you're taking away or reducing an amount of something, whether a price or quantity of things. A lot of times calculated by percentage. Or x amount off. For example: a 10 dollar discount or 10% discount. A percentage is a proportion of the whole, if the whole is 100%. Its a numeric way to represent a value compared to a previous base value. For example: a 50% decline of a population, or 12% of cars in the US, or 25% off a price in a store.
@nandain0076 жыл бұрын
oh ok sir..., by the way 70% is the discount not original or new price, the price is still $80, i almost forget it...., thank you for your advice sir :)
