It's your kayak, that you designed, and we all have our own setups. with your electronics , FF and everything you could need. As long as you feel safe, have your emergency gear, and she's seaworthy. Well that's all that matters. Key West Kayak Fishing Steve could fish off a 200 dollar sundolphin, and probably out fish anyone. This sport has exploded. I have my Hoodoo Impulse 10.6 fin drive PDL I run my Bixpy J2 with an extra battery, and installed all my electrical, FF, gps, extra usb ports, hull, deck. and cockpit accessoriues. I researched for over a year. Myself at 5 ft 7 151 lbs she cuts through the water 4 to 5 mph. I did want the bixpy because i fish the back country and flats. I'm in duck key, at 48 years old i can stay out all day, like i used to fish in my 4 ft inflatable raft, with live night crawlers and a bobber with one fishing pole at 12 years old. If you add 30l lb thrust Minnkota trolling moto from Dick's and cut the shaft down on her, she'll move you at lest 3.5 to 4 mph. and that's fast especially on a kayak. good luck, stay safe and enjoy your vessel. All kayaks are just a name, and just designed different. There is no perfect kayak. Making her your own is what makes it special.

I am considering this model kayak, but am stuck on the seat options. Some reviews claim the molded seat back is not comfortable, and they preferred the adjustable seat. Do you find it comfortable for long trips?
@JohnSims37 жыл бұрын
Hey! Let me say this...I am not a small dude, 6 ft. 2" and 250 lbs. (And old!) I found it not fitting my lumbar, so what I did was take a piece of closed cell foam and unscrewed the seat back, laid the foam sown and screwed it back, and it was perfect! Of course I am now spoiled on my Outback, but I love this yak! Depends on your size. Can you find one local to try? Some rental places have the newer models but I think they have the same seat mold...

Nice setup. How good does that truck sunshade cooler work. That looks like it would work great especially if you got two and doubled layered it. I try using an ice chest and didn't like having that big thing on mine and really don't want to spend a lot of money on a fish bag
@JohnSims310 жыл бұрын
@Chris Craig -- Thanks! It works fantastic. I was Very surprised at how well it keeps everything from spoiling. I got mine from Walmart (a heavy duty one made for trucks because it is thicker material-about $4) and I also use a Publix Cooler Bag ($2 or $3) inside of it to keep the liter soda pop bottles in. The Publix bag keeps the frozen bottles a lot cooler and if I only catch small fish, I use it to store them in. I usually take 2 bottles that are frozen and they last almost 24 hours, even in the hot sun. I was amazed at the insulation quality of the mylar sun shield... Yes, you can double them up for sure, and probably put some more thin insulation material in between. You can also make them any size and shape just by cutting them with heavy duty scissors. If you don't have a way to sew them, Duct Tape works great, at least for a while. What I like is the thing folds up like an accordion or you can roll it up, and I just shove it in my forward milk crate. Hope it works out for you. A heck of a lot cheaper than a fish bag, and very tough to tear...

I made it from an old street sign I had laying around. Bent it and cut it with a jig saw. Look up 'Rudder Gudgeon' on Google or this site has all kinds of sizes duckworksbbs.com/hardware/p-g/index.htm I just chose to not drill holes and used the keel plate and pad eye for anchoring points. Seems to be holding up well even when running aground every trip!

So how did you do the fish bag? Did you use some kind of glue to seal the edges or sew it. Is there a website you got the idea from?
@JohnSims310 жыл бұрын
I folded it in half lengthwise, and sewed the edges and one end shut. I then cut about 18 inches off of the end I didn't sew, because it was way too long (the width of a truck windshield, then I sewed Velcro to the open edges, and turned the whole thing inside out. I have seen it before but can't recall what site. You don't have to make it as long as mine, in fact you can get 2 from one window shade. I made mine long to hold Kingfish, Wahoo, Dolphin, etc.
