Haven't been fishing for years but used to love it when I was a youngster. My dad had a Mitchell match reel and I had a Mitchell 300.

I have two closed face Abu 505's from the 1960's and they still work like new.

Delightful pastime there. :-) If you hook a trout or similar out of season. you just return it I assume here if there are trout i streams, we are prevented fomr any fishing at all in the breeding season. No great problem off nurse. :-)

If we catch a trout out of season we just put it back and now when fishing for trout in season we put all the wild ones back and only keep the stock trout which are triploids that cannot breed with the wild ones.

I was very pleased with the closed face reel and now use it most of the time. However I will use the centre pin for long trotting on fast rivers like the Hampshire Avon. Thank you for your comment.

You forgot to say if you preferred it to a spinning reel.

I use a fix spool reel for spinning but I could use the closed face reel. Thank you for your comment.
