The hate Leah (Annabeth) got was unreal when the casting was announced. People started harassing her adults (mostly 30-year men and women) considering most adults are Pjo fans because that is when the book came out. They sent her a lot of racist and hateful comments to her and her family. Even to the point where they got her tiktok account banned 3 times. (Keep in mind she was 12 years old when all of this was happening) Even now after the show is over she is still getting banned constantly, she was banned 4 times this week and is still banned because people won't stop reporting her account. It got so bad that Rick made an entire blog post (when the casting was announced) saying that if you think Annabeth's looks are the most important then you do not get the point of the books. He said Leah is Annabeth and that HE CHOSE HER (since rick himself casted these actors to play HIS characters). He also said that saying that the casting is a way to add diversity is stupid. He said that out of the 10,000 people that auditioned for Annabeth, she portrayed her the best and that was more important than the way she looks. Plus Rick is already known for adding diversity to his books so. Keep in mind both Walker (Percy) and Aryan (Grover) are book inaccurate but all people could really talk about was Leah so that says something. I can't wait for you guys to see more of Leah she is incredible in this role.

That is HORRIBLE. People are VILE. I'm glad Rick weighed in on the subject. I know tat won't fix it, but at least his official thoughts were heard, and people can't claim "He didn't want this for his characters!" But we are loving the show! 😁

I think the reason they did not want to tell him about his mother is because they didn’t want him to change his focus or choose between avoiding a war and his mother. Because if the choice needs to be made, he would choose his mom. That is what I took from it anyway. Love your reactions!

Yes, I also interpreted it this way! I think it was good that they established that Percy's original motive was to save his mom, so then we can watch as he matures and accepts that he has to save the world as well.

Yeah, totally get that. I stated it on a different post that even though I understand it, I probably would have told him and said, "Hey, your mom is with Hades, he wants the bolt or he keeps her. You have to find the bolt or go to Hades to stop this war to save her." And then he'd go... "Cool. Let's do it." *LOL* 😁 At least that's my imaginary scenario. ALTHOUGH, that'd be absolutely boring due to lack of "conflict" in the story. He needs to have to choose: World v His Mom. 😁

Leah did an amazing job portraying Annabeth despite the racist backlash from white Percy Jackson fans. I’m glad Rick Riordan called them out and supports and praises Leah constantly

First they didn’t tell him because Percy was just a random kid and they didn’t want to go against a big 3 god . Then they didn’t tell him because they wanted Percy to only focus on the quest , him knowing makes him unreliable because he could pick his mom over the quest .
