@@misho2250 It isn't a small detail at all. One of the main goals of the books is to have middle-schoolers grow up with Percy Jackson as he matures into a (still not so responsible) demigod. Rick puts in a lot of character development for Percy, especially when it comes to his physique. Remember, Percy wasn't always a lithe, muscular guy with the heavenly body of a swimmer. He started off as a lanky, awkward 12-year old who develops into THAT awesome dude we love.

I mostly agree with ya bro. Except for the fact that the riverdale is a worse adaptation, due to it only having the names of the guys in the comics. Whereas for pj the story is similar in a lot of ways. And mostly keeps to the story....... but it’s not as bad as the riverdale series.

@@blueberry.milktea_ Excuse me what. The PJO books have almost nothing in common with the movies except for the very basic ideas, such as the demigods, gods, and titans. They also got the names right(unlike some adaptations. Ya Im looking at you The Last Airbender). But other than that, the characters have completely different personalities. The entire plot in the movie is based around the pearls, where in the books, they are mentioned in about 5 pages total in the whole book. Lots of iconic scenes were either deleted or changed so much they are nearly unrecognizable. A lot of the great character building scenes that helped us understand and relate to the characters were cut. They basically replaced the entire climax of the story. Some iconic characters were not even shown in the movies, such as Clarisse being totally cut from the movie. They even changed all the characters' ages, then changed the prophecy to fit these new ages. Like, why? They put Persephone in the Underworld even though its summer. Then they changed the entire dynamic between Persephone and Hades. They should have a loving relationship, but in the movies, they hate each other. They changed the character design completely for most of the main characters. They changed Luke and his scenes so much you wouldn't recognize him if he hadn't introduced himself. There is a lot of scenes where all the campers are just standing around in the background of a scene or just crowding around someone when that never happens in the books. I could go on, but Im getting tired of listing all the reasons why the PJO movies are a flaming pile of manure.

@@en4833 Jeez bro, I wasn't looking for someone to write an essay. I know how horrible the movies are compared to the books. I have been a part of the fandom for years. I know that they only got the baseline of the books into the movies, and I complain about it constantly. But I don't if you have read the archie and freinds comics but they have nothing to do with murder or any of the plot that has been put into the Riverdale series. I used to be ok with the actors of this Peter Johnson movie, bc maybe they didn’t know what they were getting into when they signed to be on this movie. BUT the obvious fact that none of them even bothered to do research on the source material, something that any responsible actor should do, makes me lose all respect for them. It’s not like they’re 12-14 where they might not have that maturity to consider reading the series. Furthermore, the Percy Jackson novels are really not long at all, nowhere near the magnitude of Harry Potter books, and are not written in some type of old English or intricate poetry. ok i know im very late here but this is bothering me for a very specific reason and i have to say. the blue food thing is frustrating on several levels. 1. because it is a very easy thing to include that is established in the first couple chapters of the first book. it proves that not only did the director not care enough to include it, the actors didnt care enough to do their research. 2. it is a common fandom reference and joke that percy likes blue food, and was, at least at the time that this interview was made, so ridiculously common that if you'd engaged with fandom at all it was inescapable. but 3, and 3 really bothers me: (this is all from memory so if i got anything wrong feel free to correct me) percy grew up in an abusive household. this is a thing that as kids, i feel like a lot of us didn't truly appreciate. his mother worked at a candy shop to support him, when she'd rather have been going back to school, and she would bring back blue candy for him, because blue was his favorite color. she would make him blue pancakes for breakfast. blue food was a sign of normalcy for percy. it was a comfort. things are shit but my mom is making blue pancakes and everything will be ok. the moment he gets to camp half blood and they show him he can fill his cup with whatever he wants, he turns it blue. tyson makes him a blue birthday cake. actually, every birthday cake he gets is blue, and every birthday cake leads him closer to his 16th birthday, when he is supposed to die. when he survives, and we go into the second series, after he endures all these trials and trauma and recovering from amnesia and being away from home for months on end, he still eats blue pancakes for breakfast. proof that everything is okay. it wasnt just "haha percy quirky he eats blue food because he is ocean boy and ocean is blue" it was that blue food was something his mother gave him when they were stuck in an abusive household and everything seemed terrible, and even when he thinks she's dead, even when he's very far from home, when he thinks he's going to be dead soon, or when he's amazed at still being alive, he is eating blue food. obviously i dont harbor any real ill will for these actors, im sure they're lovely people. but it just feels like such an insult, and this specific interview is the thing i remember whenever i see people go "the actors were great, the directing/writing/production was just bad!" because maybe they're good actors, i haven't seen their other work, but they could've at least read like. the first book. i dont feel like asking actors to read books made for middle schoolers is an unreasonable ask.
