I was there 50 years ago when Pere Ubu played Final Solution for the very first time. The Oak Park SOR cover is every bit as exciting in its own way as Ubu’s was that night. Every bit! I’m crying-literally crying-tears of joy for these talented and beautiful young men and women. WOW! And THANK YOU!

My faith in humanity is restored. I love the teenaged fragility of it and the young drummer who is like a seedling but is obviously going to be an oak.

Nice! Perhaps it will be these talented young people who can finally figure out the location of George's hat. Of course, any Pere Ubu fan knows that it wasn't where it wasn't at, but there's still the question of where it was instead. I remain hopeful after seeing this. Thanks for sharing it.

They should had tried to make it their own (it's just a copycut exercise)...but then it's not a bad effort. Note how female voices are needed to cover David Thomas' high pitches shrills and vocal range! LOL...as someone wrote in some reviews - David's singing is like his jacket's on fire...

I did check about this school because I got intrigued...it's amazing Pere Ubu are being studied - after all those years.

It was part of their tribute to _Rust Belt Rock_ and the teachers at the school are all working musicians (some that you might know from the local music scene) and they have a deep knowledge of music. The head of the whole music program is a guy named Rick Carney, who we might know from the Dallas punk band _Jesus Christ Superfly._ One of the most amazing covers was by the band _Death:_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJ-upqaVpa2nhc0

@@MidWestConcertVideo2 There is another band called "Death" (another death metal one - ok but not that interesting) but fortunately you are referring to the "proto punk" ones which I didn't know - and yes...the guitar is definitely punk but the bass and some vocals in "Politicians in My Eyes" aren't (bass is funk and vocals too lyrical/melodic for punk) - but then I listened to "Freaking out" and I must admit these guys were doing punk before the Ramones and Sex Pistols. Thanks, all very interesting...more so because this is an all blacks band to show the universal appeal of Punk and Post Punk in particular. I mean when I was a kid I was listening to rock (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis etc.) but apart from Jimi Hendrix there were no blacks in my music scene (I wasn't listening to Jazz or Blues at that time)...then with post punk we started to see bands with blacks and whites and any race playing together (Ska in particular: The Selecters, The Specials, The English Beat etc.). BTW - when you are in the mood for new discoveries I suggest to click the link below - it's another band which was doing punk before it all started and it was in Bologna - Italy!! Iggy Pop listed this song in a BBC 6 radio program few months ago - being an Italian based in Manchester UK that sounded shocking - of course I knew the band but never though Iggy himself knew anything about them. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqGam4qwYrefebM

Death was a pre-punk band, from Detroit and they kicked a$$. Sorry, I would like to hear you play this, as flawlessly as these students did. Why should they have "made it their own" they were paying tribute (and rightfully so) to a band that deserves this recognition.
