this is aweome. i'm 55 and absolutely nothing like this existed when i was a teen and even well into my 30's equipment was very expensive and not all over the place like it is now (if you went cheap you sounded cheap unless you got real lucky). and even just finding a place to jam could be a complete nightmare. glad to see thangs have changed i imagine my earlier life could've been alot less miserable if this sorda thang was available then.

You are so right! The things the _School of Rock_ provides are what young musicians most need - a place to practice, a time to practice, other musicians to practice with and really cool teachers to both teach and inspire them. Every teacher I've met at the _School of Rock_ is a working musician. And of course, modern manufacturing techniques have made even cheap instruments decent and reliable.

This kind of reminds me of when I was in the school band. In 1965, I did a solo of Little brown jug. The song was 21 years old. I thought it was ancient history. I'm a boomer. I think the boomers grew up with the greatest explosion of music in the history of mankind. Dark side of the moon is about 50 years old. The music still kicks ass. I'm so happy to see kids playing this music.

I liked your performance so much - congrats to you all. I've watched a lot of these School of Rock videos from Chicago and Oak Park, and I have a couple of questions: Who selects the song? Why are the songs almost always oldies? (That's not a complaint. I'm an old guy and love these songs!) Is there a SOR - or a fantasy camp - for adults? Thanks!
@MidWestConcertVideo2
@MidWestConcertVideo2 7 жыл бұрын
From what I understand, the choice of shows is selected by the locations Music Director, and the songs are selected by the Music Director and the Show Director. The shows tend to be pretty heavy on older stuff just because there is so much of it, but they do songs up to the current day, and they also have a songwriting program. And yes, they do have an Adult program - in fact, I've seen entire families in the same School of Rock, the kids in the regular program, and both parents in the Adult Band.

As someone who has seen Pink Floyd play this (and many songs) live, as well as seen a number of very good Floyd tribute bands do this song, I will admit that this was just so so. But who cares. This is a tough song and Floyd's sound is sooo iconic. I echo (pun intended) all the comments about how great it is to see young people keeping this music, real music, alive. Bravo!!
