When I was listening to this song my fire alarm went off. I did of course hear it, very well in fact, but I didn't pay any mind cause I thought it was part of the song. "Well the fire alarm in this song is very loud today, isn't it?" That was my last thought as I noticed smoke coming out of my bedroom and actually realized what kind of a mess my bad habit of listening to weird artsy rock from the 70s with my headphones on actually put me in. Nowadays all of my possession left are my PJs, the headphones and my remastered edition of Ziggy Stardust. 10/10, this song is on fire. Just like my house.

@souptec3 жыл бұрын
David Thomas (singer) never considered Pere Ubu punk, just another American rock band.
@conflictmagazine3 жыл бұрын
@@souptec Of course he didn't...hardly anyone ever identified with the genre name...the Ramones thought they were just making Bubblegum Pop...but the very definition of American punk rock was that it was rock and roll, returned to its roots and everybody didn't look the same or sound the same. John Lydon bashed the punk rock scene in England when he said that when the Pistols proved influential he had hoped that other bands would do their own thing and instead most of them just tried to copy the Pistols...he really wanted the UK scene to rival or beat the American scene, even bashing on the Patti Smith Group when they played in the UK...a lot of really good bands came out of the UK scene but the sheer diversity of music just wasn't there like in American punk rock.

Dave Thomas is from another planet. Can't be sure if he's having a nervous breakdown or singing in front of a band. All due respect to the rest of Pere Ubu, but they wouldn't have been recognized beyond Cleveland city limits with anyone but Dave singing. He is unlike any other singer I'm aware of

Saw him perform as David Thomas and Two Pale Boys in a small pub venue in Camden, London. He had a continual struggle with the contact mics on his accordian as they kept falling off and was in tears of frustration at several points. His wife(?) had to come over and hug him at one point. Watching a man struggle with his art was next level respect to the guy and it felt like an honour to witness. He got such a huge round of applause when the set finished.
