Hi Amanda! I'm really enjoying your channel. I'm a gardening nut in 7B, Alabama. I love the look of Baptisia blowing in the wind so much that I don't mind that it has a shorter bloom time. Good luck on growing it in a pot, but keep in mind that they grow a very deep tap root, up to 7 feet, and may have some difficulty in a shallow pot. Also, mine have reached the 6 foot height mark this summer, so it may get larger than the description reads.

I love the plant colors you chose for your front border, the sedums and blanket flower will look lovely together. I don't know if you want to add bulbs, but drumstick alliums would look great there and the bulbs are small, so not such a drag to fall plant. I live in Denver 6a/5b and have some but not great luck with baptisia. I have noticed that even though they are drought tolerant they perform best with consistent moisture and do better without competition. I order from Bluestone a lot and also like Annie's Annuals; they would probably have a lot of options available for your zone (and higher zones in general).. Thanks for yoru video!

First, I just love love love your content. You give so much good information. I’m in zone 8a, in Hot Hot SC! So lots of times, I’m feeling ya girl!…I planted two of the same variety of Baptisia that you showed today. I put them out when it was so so so hot..and thought oh well, I knew better…but I babied them and they kept enough life in them to take root. Put them in the outside perimeter of my very rural property..sandy, dry, ect…but now since the days a getting a little shorter, the new growth is coming out and they are taking off really well. I think they will have a good bit of new foliage on them by the time we get frost..I plant on cutting them back about that time and kinda mounding lightly some pine needles until spring…this is my first time with this plant, but if it continues to grow like this, I’m looking forward to using some of this for the greenery in some cut flowers. Take care! And thanks so much for sharing all your experience!❤️

@@shesamadgardener hey there! I wanted to let you know that our temps in SC have cooled down and bit(85 is the highest it’s been this past week) and the Baptisia is really taking off. The lady at our local nursery told me that it would really take off this fall(and it has) I’ve been hitting it with my “Bunny Brew”-I have a rabbit and it mix some of its droppings in water and fertilize it every other day. The heat killed a lot of stems but I was having new growth at the same time…hoping it will get some size on it before winter-Get some and try this fall..and see what it will do this spring. I bet with it getting some size on it , it will tolerate the heat better…or at least I hope it will…haha!

You got me at hot, dry and humidity tolerant...Houston 9b with unusually crazy hot 101 degree sunny weather today and tomorrow😢 Looking forward to late September. Sedums of any type seem to do great and are not water hogs and definitely not fussy demanding critters. They spread but haven't been invasive like some unfortunate things I've planted. I purchased a smallish hanging basket of a mixed variety of colorful sedums from Trader Joe's a couple of years ago. It hangs in full west sun and just looks super. Some are even freeze hardy but some are not so you might consider that into your plan.

Also, I have tried the Dragons Blood Sedum multiple times and it has never done well for me in Austin. It has very tiny, thin leaves that just crisp up and fall off in the heat of summer... I have only grown it in a pot though. My vote is for the plum!

Bluestone is my go-to online vendor, as well as Mr Maple and Heirloom Roses. I’ve always been a perennials fan though I’m now adding dwarf conifers for winter interest. I especially like the blue ones. I only do a few annuals like strawflowers. I buy daffodils rather than tulips, for example, and I was able to find the ‘Champagne Elegance’ iris you recommended. Looking forward to spring if only August will end.

Beautiful choices. I have gallardia & coreopsis in my Arlington, TX garden that do pretty well. The most difficult part of gardening in flowerbeds is under if overwatering:-/ I’m using a water meter as I hand water. Do we tend to over or underwater?

I have 3 Baptisia. One is growing, albeit slowly, and the other 2 have 1 or 2 stems after 3 years in the ground. I'm leaving the 2 because it can't hurt, but I have no idea why they're not growing. I've never enjoyed nor been able to grow gallardia, but I think it would look nice with your combination. I've had a couple low growing sedum, again, not really thriving, but no reason to get rid of them where they are planted. I am a fan of lemon coral sedum though. Have you considered low growing shrubs? Maybe something in the blue hues. I have been switching to more shrubs, evergreen when I can, and filling in with perennials. We'll see if it's a successful changeover next year.

If find that flowers like the real charmer tend to burn out quickly, the flowers wilt and spdiscolor, unlike other perrenial flowers. Perhaps some form of nutrient would help. The coreopsis blooms for a long time.

It was huge and didn’t flower very well although it was on the edge of a shadier area. I just pulled it out which was extremely difficult. Loved the foliage but it didn’t hold up well in a vase.
