I love that finishing technique. I can't stand the backstitch look on featured topstitching. Thanks very much.

Another perfect example of how spending just a little bit more time on something gives a neat and tidy result! Thanks for the tips! :)

Another great video you made! I watched it few times just to enjoy the nice way you finished the circle. Love the quilt!!! There is a tip to get the paper off the fabric easily. I got this tip and will happily pass along: Take a pin and just scratch the paper, bend the paper to the sides of the scratch and now you have something to hold on to peel it off...

Thank you, wonderful! Avoided circles but now I can do them properly! Unfortunately we don't get the magazine in this country so can't look for the pattern xxx

Hi Tineke, here's the original project text if it helps, c x 1. Cut the legs off an old pair of jeans then cut along the wide fell seam to flatten the fabric. Use a quilters rule and rotary cutter to make lots of 16cm squares of denim. Save the leftover pieces to make 16cm by 8.5cm rectangles. Cut more rectangles from canvas weight cream and yellow fabric. Layout the pieces to make a seven by seven grid, distributing the coloured canvas pieces throughout the layout and pairing each piece with a half square of denim. Flip over some of the denim pieces to the wrong side so they are a different colour. Sew the half squares together with a 5mm seam allowance and press. 2. Cut several 11cm squares of cotton print fabric. Fuse 11cm squares of Bondaweb to the back of each one and cut both layers into 10cm circles using a template and scissors or a diecutting machine. Cut some of these circles in half and lay onto the half square sections of the layout. Arrange the remaining circles until you are happy with the design. Peel off the backing paper and fuse each applique piece to the fabric. 3. Use a bright yellow variegated thread to stitch the applique to the backing fabric with a short, narrow zigzag stitch and pull the ends of the thread to the back of the work to be tied off neatly. Sew the patchwork pieces together in pairs with a 5mm seam allowance. Sew the pairs together into blocks, matching up the centre seams as you do so. Continue joining pieces in this way to complete the quilt top and press. 4. Pin the quilt top to cotton wadding and plain white cotton backing fabric. Top stitch along the seam lines with a denim blue thread. Cut several 3cm wide strips of yellow cotton and join end to end to make a continuous length. Trim the edges and bind with the strip, stitching it to the back of the work, mitring the corners as you do so. Fold the strip over the edges, fold in 5mm on the raw edge and top stitch to the front of the work.

Could i add the half circles to the rectangles before they are sewn together to create a square? Or would that make the circle smaller because part of it is in the seam that joins the two rectangles?
@TheCraftsChannel2 жыл бұрын
You can, just leave a 5-6mm gap between the straight edge of the semicircle and the edge of the rectangle. Make sure you zigzag down the straight part of the semi circle or you'll end up with a fraying pocket 🤣 c x

scratch the paper with the pin and you will have an edge to peel off

Yes, I've heard that before. Still forget though and keep trying with my fingernails! c x
