I split my time between Thailand, Costa Rica and Medellin Colombia. All of my gringo friends that retired in Costa Rica all moved to Medellin, since Costa Rica has become expensive. Medillin is a great city. Super cheap, very clean and very beautiful girls. I’ve been spending time there over the last 5 years and never had a safety issue. Many bars, clubs and working girls in El Problado. Like any city, certain neighborhoods to go into like Chicago, New York or Miami. I highly recommend. For Brazil, need to go to Rio once, but that’s it. In southern Brazil is Florianopolis, which is a great city with amazing beaches. I also like Sol paulo, but a different vibe. If you want content, check out downtown San Jose (costa rica) in “gringo gulch” and definitely in Jaco Beach on the Pacific side. Party city!

I feel like you could easily get into a volunteer visa setup, just talk to one of the agents that helps set people up with the right organization. You've got media and language skills they'd appreciate and it's flexible. Of course, if you do go with the country hopping, it wouldn't be the play.
