sure, as we are outside objective observer this is a ridiculous move. But it's always good to consider things a bit further rather than an immediate assessment. "dumb" means he doesn't understand the implications and probability of pro and con. That's not the case as he struggled to make the decision. Human beings make decision based on EMOTION, and they justify it (or sometimes don't bother) with logic. This has been well established. If you were to ask 1million humans that you can "kill the one person you love", a member of family, parents, child, spouse w/e. and prevent world destruction by 99% chance, a giant chunk will still unable to kill their loved one for the greater good. To really drive the emotional aspect home, say I give you an remote, you press it, your mom or whomever you love the most, dies in extreme brutal fashion, but rest of the world now have a much better chance to survive w/e. MOST people will NOT press that button. To a cold machine intelligence looking at this and consider the big picture they will have the same response you do with Krillin, like wtf, this is a dumb move not to brutally let your loved one explode to potentially save millions more. In manga Trunks didn't attack like that There was a similar scene in DBS where Goku tried to attack Jiren, but couldn't deal damage. Well, he had to start blocking from SS2 and had to dodge SSGSS, while being on the level of UI Omen at least. Trunks with his Grade 2 SS form would at least scratch Cell if he gone all out with punches. Though I understand why anime did it, making Killing attack just wasn't impressive in this scene. He was weak, and we knew it already. They had to make a stronger character try and be outmatched.

They're like yah yah yah hyaaa! I think Krillen one of the most admirable characters, he is a human, probably the most powerful human on earth and has such honor and dignity. They probably didn't have to even do any dodging as Cell wasn't gonna do anything and not even hurting him. Yes this is a good lol memory. I think Trunks if he went to his power form he has more raw power strength than cell but he is slower and Perfect form Cell has advanced healing abilities, faster Ki recharge, speed, reflexes and health/endurance. When you watch especially the Japanese dub of Powered up Trunks vs Perfect form Cell (I love the Japanese trunks theme song) you can see that Cell could have been overpowered but when Future buff Trunks is powering up during the hand to hand grab he interrupts him by headbutting him. Then at the end after he lets Future Trunks wail on him to feel his actual power he admits "in terms of Raw power you have me bested". Good scene thumbs up.

Actually no. In Dragon Ball a 2x gap is enough to stonewall the opponent. Could be as low as 50%. Raditz was at least 3x stronger than Piccolo whose attack didn't phase him. There are other examples but that's a start.

So Goku could make a good estimate on how strong Frieza would be, and knew he'd still win. Goku also only let Frieza power up to disrespect him, not for the fight. Vegeta on the other hand had 0 clue just how strong Cell would get from absorbing 18. Vegeta also only let Cell absorb 18 as a way to inflate his already massive ego
