Ah, you were so close to Montalcino, one of our favorite places in Tuscany. And Buenconvento is a wonderful town as well that the train runs through. On our first day in Tuscany we asked an old man out drinking espresso with his friends where the grocery store was in Buenconvento and after he told us we started off on foot to find it. A few minutes later a car pulled up beside us. It was the old man who had come to check on us to be sure we were walking in the right direction. Such good people.

Just got back from three weeks in Italy. Also did the picnic basket lunch - AMAZING. But one thing to be aware of, I think COVID did in the ‘just walk into the barrel room’. We were planning to do that, but we’re very disappointed to find the doors closed and only doing guided tours now. We weren’t there at the right time for a tour but still had a fantastic afternoon in Montepulciano.

Hey guys, we are visiting Italy again this fall and will be through Florence and into Val D'Orcia... I see that you have great drone footage in your videos and I am curious if you have any advice for traveling to Italy with a drone? I have a sub 249g... I don't really think I will be flying anywhere near Florence (unless someone has any suggestions on how to do that?)... but would like to fly through the countryside on our drive from Florence to Pienza. This castle is very Game of Thrones-esque. It reminds me of Winterfell in summer or maybe where they held The Red Wedding, at least a little bit. If it were summer weather in Tuscany it might remind me more of the castle at King's Landing and The Red Keep.

Re: "it will take us years and years and years to get anywhere with wine". Actually what happens is that when you start to appreciate wine, you seamlessly move from liking a wine with food to appreciating it for itself, and then everything gets increasingly expensive from there on!

It really depends on the rind: if it's waxed or not etc. I'm French and I eat the rind of most French cheeses: sometimes I find it's actually the best part, especially on Comté!

The rind wont hurt you but its just very hard and rubbery so its not great. It IS good for adding to vegetarian soups and sauces to add a meaty umami flavour
